HOUSTON - The University of Houston Men's Basketball program jumped out to a 26-2 lead in the first 13 minutes and never looked back in taking an 83-53 win over Cornell on Saturday afternoon inside Hofheinz Pavilion.
Playing for the fourth time in a six-day stretch, the Cougars limited Cornell to only one field goal in their first 13 tries. Meanwhile, junior forward Devin Davis led the Cougars with 10 points, and senior guard Damyean Dotson added nine points during that run.
Houston, which shot at least 54 percent in each half and finished at 55.0 percent for the game, never led by fewer than 16 points the rest of the way in the first meeting between the two teams.
The Cougars forced 19 Cornell turnovers, leading to 28 points, and outrebounded the Big Red 40-31 with 12 offensive rebounds.
Davis led four Cougars in double digits with 18 points and fell just one rebound shy of recording his second double-double of the season. The Indianapolis native connected on 8-of-11 shots from the field and snared three offensive boards in only 25 minutes.
Junior guard Rob Gray totaled 15 points with two rebounds, three assists and three steals, while junior guard Wes VanBeck came off the bench to post 12 points, thanks to a 5-of-5 performance from the free throw line. Dotson, who was a Preseason All-American Athletic Conference First-Team selection, added 10 points and four rebounds.
With the win, the Cougars moved to 5-0 for the second straight season under Head Coach Kelvin Sampson but only the 10th time in school history. Cornell dropped to 1-5.
Cornell guard Matt Morgan led all players with 23 points , including five 3-pointers. JoJo Fallas added 12 points, while Robert Hatter paced the Big Red with six rebounds.
Following Saturday's game, the Cougars travel east on Interstate 10 for their first road contest of the season when they meet SEC foe LSU at 8 p.m., Tuesday, inside the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge, La.
From there, the Cougars return to the friendly confines of Hofheinz Pavilion to play host to Prairie View A&M at 4 p.m., Dec. 3.

Current University of Houston main campus students are admitted FREE to all Men's Basketball games with valid IDs. Main campus students may purchase up to two (2) student guest tickets to each Men's Basketball game for $8 each, based on availability.
For as low as $80, fans can purchase season tickets to all 16 regular-season game plus two exhibition contests during the final season inside Hofheinz Pavilion. Reserved 2 seating is available for only $130, while fans can enjoy Reserved 1 seating for $225.
Single game tickets begin at only $12 for American Athletic Conference games and $10 for non-conference games.
