BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) - Brian Latham and Andrew Owens each scored 21 points as Houston beat Lamar 85-77 Saturday night.

Houston (5-3) led most of the way thanks largely to outside shooting. Latham was 3-of-5 on 3-pointers and Owens was 4-of-7. Owens also added 10 rebounds and Latham had six assists.

Alan Daniels led Lamar (1-2) with 32 points and 11 rebounds, but he also had nine of Lamar's 24 turnovers.

The Cougars jumped to a 37-32 halftime lead, then stayed ahead after shooting 56 percent from the field in the second half. Ramon Dayer had 18 points and three blocks, and Lanny Smith had 11 points for UH.

Josh Goodwin was the only other Lamar player in double figures, scoring 15 points of 5-of-6 shooting. Goodwin also had 10 rebounds.
