    Recap |  Final Stats

    HOUSTON HEAD COACH James Dickey
    Opening Statement

"I'm happy the win and how our guys responded. We knew we needed to improve and we made progress. Our play was sloppy at times but we did a better job defending, rebounding and our awareness was good for the most part.

Other than the turnovers, we played well and some guy had some good performances. I was impressed that we got to the free throw line a lot more. We played how we were supposed to play. Overall, I was pleased with the win but mostly with how our guys played."

    On what was different tonight
"You can't take anything from the teams that come in here and win but we certainly played a big part in those games. I'm glad they weren't happy with them because I wasn't. We worked on the things that put us in a better position to win. We needed to defend, rebound and execute offensively better. After those loses we went back and worked on things that were important."

On their strong free throw shooting
"You can't make a high percentage of free throws without getting to the line. Coach Brooks has been harping to the guys to get to the line. If we would have converted some of those easy shots, we would have probably had a better percentage."

On what will be the key to rebounding well consistently
"Rebound well in practice and becoming a habit. We've work on it but it has not carried over to the game. It has to be a priority in practice."

On how assertive Jonathon Simmons was
"He did not force. He didn't start off well but I was pleased with how he played. His shot selection was very good and he got to the line. He did a nice job and played within himself."

    JUNIOR GUARD Jonathon Simmons
On the difference in how the team came out tonight after losing streak

"We had two great days in practice. Preparation is what got us ready for this game."

On Leon Gibson playing while Kirk Van Slyke recovers from injury
"Leon came in big. He has been practicing really well."

On taking over more on the court
"I just have to start looking into being more aggressive since I haven't been. The preparation in practice got me ready for the game."

    On shooting better from outside
"I've been putting extra work in on shooting during practice."

    On turnovers
"I think we had a lot of unforced turnovers. We were trying to pass the ball when we're not there. That is one thing we will have to work on."

    On the increased rebounds
"That's all Coach Dickey has been stressing so we tried to prove a point. No one is going to beat us on the boards."

    FRESHMAN FORWARD TaShawn Thomas
On the difference in how the team came out tonight after the losing streak

"The whole team was tired of losing so we came out this week in practice and said that we were going to win this game and not lose at home any more."

On why the team has a better free throw percentage
"Extra practice. That's all we do in practice and after practice."

    On the increased rebounds
"Alandise and I kept trying to get in each other's heads during practice. We made it a competition to see who was going to get the most rebounds."
