HOUSTON (AP) - Lanny Smith scored 30 points and grabbed six rebounds as Houston beat New Orleans 78-65 on Thursday night.

Smith sank nine of his 10 free throws and was 8-of-13 from the field. Andre Owens added 19 points and seven rebounds for the Cougars (6-3).

Bo McCalebb led New Orleans (3-5) with 26 points, while Chad Barnes added 10.

McCalebb was 11-of-21 from the field and grabbed five rebounds.

Houston never trailed, taking a 45-32 lead into halftime.
