San Diego State used a 23-7 run in the second half to come back and defeat the University of Houston, 71-61, in Hofheinz Pavilion on Saturday, December 21.

Mike Mackell scored 22 points and Aerick Sanders added 12 points and a game-high 14 rebounds to lead the Aztecs, who improved their record to 5-3 this season.

Louis Truscott led the Cougars with 16 points and 12 rebounds, and scored nine points in the first half to lead Houston to a 30-28 half-time lead.

But, he could only get four shots off in the second half as San Diego State double-teamed him immediately after he caught the ball inside.

To complicate matters, Jeremee McGuire picked up his fourth foul 15 seconds into the second half and didn't re-enter the game until 3:38 remained in the game. McGuire finished with 10 points and six rebounds.

Houston falls to 2-5 on the season and the Cougars travel to Seattle, Wash., for a game at the University of Washington on December 23 at 9:30 p.m.
