Men's Basketball Team Travels To Kentucky on Jan. 3

The University of Houston men's basketball team travels to Lexington, Ky. on Jan. 3, when the Cougars play the University of Kentucky in a non-conference game. The Cougars enter the game with a 5-6 overall record after having lost three straight games after suffering a 78-62 loss against UNLV last Saturday night in Hofheinz Pavilion.

Houston has two of the top seven scoring and rebounding leaders in Conference USA. Junior guard Robert McKiver, who has scored just 10 points in Houston's last two games, ranks third among the league's scoring leaders with 17.8 points per game. Senior guard Oliver Lafayette is averaging 15.7 points per contest and ranks seventh among C-USA scoring leaders after scoring a team-high 16 points against UNLV.

Senior forward Jahmar Thorpe is averaging 6.5 rebounds per game, and ranks sixth among C-USA rebounding leaders. Junior guard Robert Lee ranks seventh with 6.3 rebounds per game. Junior forward Dion Dowell is averaging 17.4 points and 7.4 rebounds in five games this season.

Kentucky enters the game with a 10-3 record after a 78-65 victory over Eastern Kentucky. The Wildcats have won six straight games and the win gives Kentucky a 7-0 record in Rupp Arena this season. Junior center Randolph Morris leads the Wildcats in scoring and rebounding with averages of 16.6 points and 7.9 rebounds per game.

Junior guards Ramel Bradley and Joe Crawford are averaging 13.5 points and 12.5 points per game, respectively. Bradley and freshman guard Derrick Jasper lead the team in assists with 3.5 assists each. Jasper also averages 4.4 points per game and has started four games for the Wildcats.

Senior forward Bobby Perry has started every game this season and is averaging 7.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per contest. Freshman guard Jodie Meeks is chipping in with 7.1 points per game off the bench.
