Men's Basketball Returns Home to Play Host to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Tuesday
Jan. 5, 2009
GAME 12
The Cougars come into the game after a tough 82-65 loss at Mississippi State on Saturday. In that game, junior guard Aubrey Coleman posted 11 points and 10 rebounds for his third double-double in the last four games. The Houston native is the only player in Conference USA to rank among the league's top-nine leaders in both scoring and rebounding. Junior guard Kelvin Lewis continues to lead the Cougars with 18.4 points per game, while senior center Marcus Cousin leads the team and the league with 9.6 rebounds per contest. This will be the Cougars' final non-conference home game of the season. Following Tuesday's game, the Cougars open their C-USA schedule when they play host to UAB at 7 p.m., Saturday.
In the most recent meeting, the Cougars enjoyed an 82-74 win in Corpus Christi, Texas. Tuesday's game will be only the second game against the Islanders in Houston. On Jan. 7, 2006, the Cougars enjoyed an 86-83 win.
Tuesday's game also will be the Islanders' fifth straight road game and ninth overall this season. Junior guard/forward Kevin Palmer leads the Islanders with 16.2 points per game, making him the only player on the team to average in double digits. Sophomore forward Demond Watt leads the team with 6.1 rebounds per contest. Now in his 15th year overall and second season at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, head coach Perry Clark is 3-2 all-time against the Cougars. Tuesday's game will be his first game against UH with the Islanders.
