HOUSTON - After helping lead the Cougars to a pair of wins last week, University of Houston junior guard Aubrey Coleman was honored Monday as the Conference USA Rookie of the Week.
It was the fourth time this season that Coleman collected the league's weekly award.
Coleman led the Cougars to a pair of big home wins over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and C-USA rival UAB last week. Against the Islanders, he recorded his fourth double-double in a five-game stretch with a game-high 22 points and 10 rebounds. Coleman connected on 6-of-10 shots from the field and all 10 free throw attempts while dishing out three assists with a steal in 38 minutes.
In the Cougars' C-USA opener against UAB, he scored a game-high 25 points - all in the second half, hitting 11-of-18 shots from the field in the final period. Although he saw his double-doubles streak end at three straight games, Coleman led the Cougars to their biggest win in the all-time series against the Blazers, more than doubling the previous high.
This season, Coleman ranks second on the team and sixth in the league with 17.9 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. He is the only player in Conference USA to rank among the league's top-six individual leaders in both categories.
Tulsa center Jerome Jordan and UTEP guard Randy Culpepper were named the C-USA Co-Players of the Week.
UP NEXT FOR HOUSTON
Coleman and his Cougar teammates return to action at 8:05 p.m. (CST), Wednesday, when they meet C-USA rival UTEP inside the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas.
