EL PASO, Texas - The University of Houston men's basketball team returns to action at 8:05 p.m. (CST), Wednesday, when it meets Conference USA rival UTEP inside the Don Haskins Center.

The Cougars (10-3, 1-0 C-USA) come into the games on the heels of an impressive 75-56 win over C-USA rival UAB in the league opener for both teams on Saturday. In that game, junior guard Aubrey Coleman scored a game-high 25 points - all in the second half - to help lead the Cougars to their biggest win in the all-time series against the Blazers.

For his impressive performances last week, Coleman was honored as the C-USA Rookie of the Week, the fourth time this season he claimed the league's weekly award.

This season, Coleman ranks second on the team and sixth in the league with 17.9 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. He is the only player in Conference USA to rank among the top-six individual leaders in both categories.

Senior center Marcus Cousin added 12 points and 10 rebounds against the Blazers for his team-leading fifth double-double of the season. In 2008-09, Cousin leads the Cougars and Conference USA with 9.8 rebounds per contest.

Junior guard Kelvin Lewis has been a steady offensive force for the Cougars all season, reaching double digits in points in all 13 games, including six 20-point games. Through 13 games, the Fort Worth native leads the Cougars and ranks fifth in C-USA with 18.5 points per game.

Cougar Men's Basketball games can be heard live on 790 AM The Sports Animal or on the Internet at UHCougars.com with Tom Franklin calling the play-by-play action. The pregame show is slated to begin 15 minutes before tip-off.

For the fourth consecutive season, the Cougars will meet UTEP on the basketball court. The Miners own an 8-4 (.667) lead in the all-time series, which began Dec. 28, 1979, but has been played at least once every season since the 2005-06 campaign.

UTEP joins UAB and Memphis as the only current C-USA schools that can boast of a winning all-time record against the Cougars.

The teams split the 2007-08 regular-season series with each winning on its home court. The Cougars enjoyed a 77-72 win in Hofheinz Pavilion on Jan. 19, 2008, before the Miners claimed an 87-81 win in El Paso, Texas on March 8, 2008.

However, less than a week later, the Miners enjoyed the last laugh with an 80-77 win during the C-USA Championship quarterfinals in Memphis, Tenn., on March 13, 2008.

The Cougars will be looking for their first win on the Miners' home court on Wednesday. UTEP has posted a perfect 7-0 record against the Cougars in El Paso. However, the series has been close there with the Miners winning of their last six home games against the Cougars by eight or fewer points.

Picked fourth in the 2008-09 Conference USA Coaches Preseason Poll, UTEP brings a 10-5 overall record in Wednesday's game. Like the Cougars, the Miners opened their C-USA schedule with a win, taking a 74-68 win at SMU on Saturday in their most recent action.

It was UTEP's third consecutive win and its sixth victory in the last seven games.

Guard Stefon Jackson, a member of the 2008-09 Preseason All-Conference USA Team leads the Cougars with 23.3 points per game. Guard Randy Culpepper ranks second with 19.3 points per game, while Arnett Moultrie tops the Miners with 6.7 rebounds per games.

Now in his third season at UTEP, head coach Tony Barbee has posted a 43-36 (.544) record during his career. He is 3-2 against the Cougars.
