Houston - Conference USA named University of Houston junior guard Robert McKiver and UAB sophomore forward Lawrence Kinnard the C-USA Men's Basketball Co-Players of the Week on Monday, Jan. 15.
McKiver earned the award after averaging 26 points, making 14 three-point field goals and shooting better than 51 percent from the field in Houston's first two C-USA games against 19th-ranked Memphis and SMU.
Kinard averaged 23.5 points while leading the Blazers to two C-USA wins against UCF and Tulane. He registered a game-high 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the floor and 4-of-8 from three-point range, all of which were career-highs, in a 74-64 overtime win against UCF on Jan. 10. Then, Kinnard scored a new career best of 25 points in the 67-60 win at Tulane on Jan. 13. It is the first time in his career he has recorded back-to-back 20-point games.
McKiver began last week scoring 27 points against Memphis in a nationally-televised game on ESPN. He followed that up with 25 points, four assists and two steals against SMU. The junior guard drained seven three-pointers in both games, shooting .560 for the week from behind the arc.
McKiver has registered six 20-point games this season, but his first back-to-back games since he won his first C-USA Player of the Week honor on Nov. 20. He and Paul Delaney III are the only two-time selections this season. Houston's Dion Dowell also earned the award on Dec. 26 after being named to the All-Tournament team at the Rainbow Classic.
He and Dowell return to action this Wednesday night when the Cougars play at cross-town rival, Rice University at Autry Court. The game tips off at 7:00 p.m.
