Tulsa, Oka. - The University of Houston men's basketball team travels to Tulsa, Okla., and plays the University of Tulsa in a Conference USA game that tips off at 7:00 p.m. at the Reynolds Center.
Houston enters the game with a 6-9 overall record while Tulsa is 12-4 this season. The Cougars are 1-2 following a 76-71 loss at Rice last Wednesday night. The Golden Hurricane are 2-1 in league play after they lost a 65-53 decision at Marshall. Tulsa has won 15 straight home games, boasting a 12-0 home mark this season. The Golden Hurricane have won their first two C-USA home games over East Carolina and UTEP.
Houston enters the Tulsa game with two of the top seven Conference USA scoring leaders and one of the top nine C-USA rebounding leaders in Conference USA. Junior guard Robert McKiver, who ranks third among the league's scoring leaders with 19.0 points per game after scoring 74 points in Houston's last three games against Memphis, SMU and Rice. Senior guard Oliver Lafayette is averaging 15.6 points per contest and ranks fifth among C-USA scoring leaders after scoring a combined 36 points against SMU and Rice.
Senior forward Jahmar Thorpe is averaging 5.9 rebounds per game, and is tied for ninth place among C-USA rebounding leaders. He also is chipping in with 9.4 points per game following his 11 points and six rebounds at Rice.
Junior forward Dion Dowell is averaging 14.0 points and 6.8 rebounds in nine games this season, but has not played in enough games to be ranked by Conference USA. Dowell registered 11 points and five rebounds at Rice.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN HURRICANE
Tulsa enters Saturday night's game having surpassed last season's win total of 11 and a 15-game winning streak at the Reynolds Center. The Golden Hurricane have a 12-0 record in home games this season and won its last three home games in 2005-06 against Rice, SMU and Tulane.
Redshirt junior Rod Earls and freshman guard Ben Uzoh are the Golden Hurricane's scoring leaders with averages of 12.8 and 10.2 points per game, respectively. A native of San Antonio, Uzoh also leads Tulsa in rebounding with a 5.1 average.
Another Texas native, junior point guard Brett McDade, leads the Golden Hurricane in assists with 45 and averages 6.3 points per contest. He has sat out the last two games with an ankle sprain.
