Knowles Named American Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week

HOUSTON - For the second time this season, University of Houston redshirt freshman forward Danrad Knowles was honored Monday as the American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week.
Knowles helped lead the Cougars to a 1-1 week with a home win over Rutgers. Against the Scarlet Knights, he led all players with 16 points and four blocked shots and added a team-high eight rebounds in the 77-55 win. It was the first start of his collegiate career.
The Nassau, Bahamas, native came off the bench at No. 18/14 Louisville earlier in the week, posting six points with five rebounds in 21 minutes.
Louisville guard Russ Smith was honored as the league's Player of the Week.
Junior forward TaShawn Thomas was named to the league's Weekly Honor Roll. In two games last week, Thomas led the Cougars in scoring and rebounding. With 16 points and 11 rebounds at No. 18/14 Louisville, he posted his American- and team-leading seventh double-double of the season and posted 12 points with four rebounds, three assists and a blocked shot against Rutgers.
Thomas joined Cincinnati guard Sean Kilpatrick, UConn guard Shabazz Napier, Rutgers guard Myles Mack and SMU forward Markus Kennedy on the Honor Roll.
Knowles, Thomas and their Cougar teammates return to action at 7 p.m., Thursday, when meet No. 23/22 Memphis inside FedExForum in Memphis, Tenn.
From there, the Cougars return to the friendly confines of Hofheinz Pavilion to play host to SMU at 2 p.m., Sunday.
