HOUSTON – University of Houston Men’s Basketball Head Coach Kelvin Sampson and his staff will appear a little more casual on the sidelines during a pair of home games this week as they wear sneakers during Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers Week.
As part of Suits and Sneakers Week, Sampson, his assistant coaches and support staff will wear sneakers during games as a visible reminder about the importance of nutrition and physical activity in reducing cancer risk.
In addition to their sneakers, Sampson and his coaches will be wearing gold shoelaces in recognition of Princess Lacey’s Legacy. Eight-year-old Lacey Holsworth passed away in 2014 but her battle gives hope and inspiration to millions of others afflicted with cancer.
Fans can purchase specially designed laces online by clicking here or in stores from Shoe Carnival in memory of Lacey. Funds raised will go to the Coaches vs. Cancer program and Princess Lacey’s Legacy to continue the fight against pediatric cancer.
The Cougars play host to Tulane at 8 p.m., Tuesday, and then meet Temple at 9 p.m., Saturday, with both games inside Hofheinz Pavilion.
Since 1993, coaches and their supporters have raised more than $100 million for the American Cancer Society. For more information, fans can visit CoachesvsCancer.org.
