HOUSTON - University of Houston Men's Basketball head coach James Dickey and his staff will take part in Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers Awareness Weekend when the Cougars tip off vs. American Athletic Conference-rival SMU at 2 p.m., Sunday, inside Hofheinz Pavilion.
Dickey, his coaching staff and support staff members will wear sneakers with their usual game attire during Sunday's game. The Cougars will join with coaching staffs from around the country to raise awareness about the fight against cancer and to promote the American Cancer Society as a place for help and support.
Dickey and college coaches will wear sneakers as a visible reminder about the importance of nutrition and physical activity in reducing one's cancer risk throughout college games this weekend.
COACHES CHARITY CHALLENGE
This is the only the latest work Dickey is doing for Coaches vs. Cancer. He currently is competing in the Infiniti Coaches' Charity Challenge with the First Round ending at 10:59 a.m., Sunday.
Dickey is competing against 47 other NCAA Division I coaches to raise money for their charities of their choice, Coaches vs. Cancer in Dickey's case. The top 24 vote-getters advance with a chance to raise more money for their charities. The farther Dickey advances, the more money will be raised for Coaches vs. Cancer.
Fans can vote for Dickey by visiting espn.com/infiniti and clicking the Vote box under his head shot or by clicking here. The First Round ends Sunday morning.
Since 1993, coaches and their supporters have raised more than $87 million from the American Cancer Society.
