3-Point Challenge

HOUSTON -- As the University of Houston Men's Basketball program participates in Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers Awareness Week, Head Coach Kelvin Sampson and the Cougars will take part in another initiative throughout the month of February for the first time.

The Cougars will participate in the 3-Point Challenge, and Houston fans are encouraged to visit pledgeit.org/cvc-houston and pledge a dollar amount for every 3-pointer the Cougars make from Feb. 1 to March 5.

The funds raised will help the American Cancer Society continue its mission to improving and saving lives by doing the most to help people with cancer today and working tirelessly to find cures for the disease tomorrow.

This week, Sampson and his Cougars participated in Coaches vs. Cancer Awareness Week. During Tuesday's win against Tulane and at Saturday's 9 p.m., game against Temple inside Hofheinz Pavilion, Sampson and his coaching and support staffs will wear sneakers on the sidelines as a visible reminder about the importance of nutrition and physical activity in reducing cancer risk.

In addition to their sneakers, Sampson and his coaches are wearing gold shoelaces in recognition of Princess Lacey's Legacy. Eight-year-old Lacey Holsworth passed away in 2014 but her battle gives hope and inspiration to millions of others afflicted with cancer.

Fans can purchase specially designed laces online by clicking here or in stores from Shoe Carnival in memory of Lacey. Funds raised will go to the Coaches vs. Cancer program and Princess Lacey's Legacy to continue the fight against pediatric cancer.
