HOUSTON -- Winners of three of its last four games, the University of Houston Men's Basketball program begins a three-game homestand when it takes on SMU at 8 p.m., Thursday, inside H&PE Arena in a game presented by Maintenance Supply Headquarters.

The Cougars (17-5 • 7-3 American) enter this week's game following an impressive, wire-to-wire road win at UCF on Saturday afternoon.

Senior guard Rob Gray led the Cougars with 20 points and added team highs of five assists and three steals against the Knights. It was the eighth straight game in which Gray -- who ranks second in The American with 18.3 points per game -- dished out at least five assists.

The Forest City, N.C, native joins SMU's Shake Milton as the only players to rank among the league's top-four leaders in both scoring and assists.

Junior guard Corey Davis Jr. continued his steady long-range shooting against UCF, posted 15 points with three 3-pointers. The Lafayette, La., native has drained at least one trey in each of the last 18 games, tying with current Cleveland Cavaliers assistant coach Damon Jones for the 10th-longest streak in school history.

With their recent play, the Cougars have surged in the latest American Athletic Conference standings are now tied for second with No. 22/21 Wichita State in the league.

Thursday's game will be the first of two regular-season meetings against the Mustangs. The two teams square off again on Feb. 28 in Dallas.

Houston Head Coach Kelvin Sampson and his staff will be wearing lapel pins on the sidelines for Thursday's game in a partnership with Coaching for Literacy (CFL), a non-profit organization dedicated to lowering the nation's illiteracy rate.

University of Houston students will want to arrive early to H&PE Arena for a special tailgate party for them. The tailgate opens at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, near the shuttle drop-off location at H&PE Arena and features free food and giveaways.


PARKING
To avoid lines for the H&PE Arena garage, fans are encouraged to use the FREE parking shuttle. Shuttle service begins at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, in Lot 12A near Gate 3 of the TDECU Stadium parking lot.


Shuttle return service begins immediately after the game and will run for one hour.

• SMU brings a 15-8 overall record and 5-5 mark in The American into Thursday's game.
• Mustangs stand in a tie with UCF and Memphis for fifth in the latest league standings.
• In its most recent action, SMU dropped a 76-67 decision at Tulsa on Feb. 1.
