HOUSTON - After helping lead the University of Houston men's basketball team to a pair of wins last week, junior guard Aubrey Coleman was honored Monday as the Conference USA Player of the Week.
It was his fifth weekly award from Conference USA this season but his first Player of the Week nod. The Houston native is a four-time recipient of the league's Rookie of the Week honor.
Coleman averaged a double-double on the week (28.5 ppg and 11.0 rpg) as he helped lead the Cougars to win against Conference USA-rivals UCF and Rice. On Wednesday at UCF, Coleman scored 30 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, becoming just the 10th player in school history to record back-to-back 30-point games and the first since the 1991-92 season.
In a win against crosstown rival Rice on Saturday, he scored 21 of his game-high 27 points in the second half while adding 12 rebounds. It was his team-leading eighth double-double of the year.
This season, Coleman leads the team and ranks third in the league with 20.0 points and is fourth in C-USA with 8.2 rebounds per game. He is the only player in Conference USA to rank among the league's top-four individual leaders in both categories.
Memphis guard Tyreke Evans was named the C-USA Rookie of the Week.
