Houston, Texas- - University of Houston senior guard Andre Owens has been selected as a Second-Team, All-District 9 selection by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

Owens is one of 150 players from 15 Districts were selected and voted to the All-District teams by the member coaches of the NABC. Each of these athletes are now eligible for the NABC Division I All-American Team that will be announced at the conclusion of the 2004-05 season.

Owens ranks fourth among Conference USA scoring leaders with 17.5 points per game this season and is averaging 5.1 rebounds per game for the Cougars in 2004-05. He has scored 20 or more points in 12 games this season, including Houston's last two games against Southern Miss and USF.

Owens netted a season-best 27 points against 16th-ranked Louisville. He also tallied 26 points against 17th-ranked Cincinnati, Saint Louis, Grambling State and McNeese State this season.

He enters Saturday's game against TCU ranked among the Top 20 career scoring leaders at Houston with 1,276 points. Owens holds the UH career record for most three point field goals made with 203.

Joining Owens as an All-District Nine selection are Michael Harris of Rice, Antoine Wright of Texas A&M, Ronald Ross of Texas Tech, Daniel Gibson of Texas and Ronnie Brewer of Arkansas on the First Team. Owens heads up the Second-Team selections that also includes Brad Buckman of Texas, Corey Santee of TCU, Brian Hopkins of SMU and Jarrius Jackson of Texas Tech.
