HOUSTON - With two impressive performances against Conference USA-rivals Marshall and UCF, University of Houston junior guard Aubrey Coleman was honored Monday's as the league's Player of the Week.
Coleman averaged 33.0 points and 9.5 rebounds per game to help lead the Cougars to a 1-1 week. On Feb. 18 at Marshall, he scored a career-best 38 points and grabbed six rebounds while hitting 16-of-30 shots from the field.
Three nights later, he recorded his team-leading ninth double-double with 28 points and a career-high-tying 13 rebounds to help lead the Cougars to the regular-season sweep of UCF. Coleman posted his double-double by halftime, recording 16 points with 11 rebounds through the first 20 minutes against the Knights.
The Houston native played all 40 minutes in both games and led the team in seven offensive categories but also finished second among the Cougars in assists.
This season, Coleman leads the team with 20.3 points and ranks second among the Cougars with 7.9 rebounds per game. He is the only player in Conference USA to rank among the league's top-four individual leaders in both categories.
It was the second Player of the Week award in his career. However, picking up league hardware is nothing new for Coleman. He has been named the C-USA Rookie of the Week four times in 2008-09. Memphis' Tyreke Evans was named the C-USA Rookie of the Week.
