HOUSTON - As the University of Houston men¹s basketball game against No. 5/4 Memphis draws closer, director of athletics Dave Maggard announced Sunday that good seating at affordable prices remains available.
The Cougars face the Tigers at 7 p.m., Wednesday, inside Hofheinz Pavilion on the UH campus.
Reserved seating for only $20 for the Memphis game can be purchased on-line at UHCougars.com, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, by visiting the Athletics Ticket Office or by calling 713-GO-COOGS during regular business hours Monday through Friday.
For UH students, student guest tickets go on sale Monday morning in the Athletics Ticket Office. Students can purchase up to four guest tickets with their valid Cougar 1 ID.
Doors to Hofheinz Pavilion open at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, and students are encouraged to arrive early.
"Having a packed house always seems to energize our players. Playing Memphis is a great challenge, and this season is no different," Maggard said. "You will not want to miss this game and your attendance will be a great encouragement to our team."
Memphis (26-3 * 14-0 C-USA) has clinched the 2009 C-USA regular-season title and owns the nation's longest current winning streak at 20 straight games. The Tigers enjoyed an 83-68 win against the Cougars on Jan. 31 in Memphis and will be looking to sweep the regular-season series against the Tigers.
The Cougars (18-9 * 9-5 C-USA), who were picked seventh in the C-USA Coaches Preseason Poll, stand in sole possession of fourth place in the latest league standings. With only two regular-season games remaining and the league's postseason tournament starting next week, head coach Tom Penders said he expected UH students to turn out in large numbers for Wednesday's game, and their support would be a tremendous asset.
"When the students come out, they always are a great boost to us," said Penders, who is in his fifth season at UH. "They're worth 10 points every game and probably more. Hopefully, we can have a great crowd against Memphis."
