EL PASO, Texas -The University of Houston men's basketball team travels to El Paso to play its final regular-season game at 8:05 p.m. (CST) Saturday against Conference USA rival UTEP at the Haskins Center.
Houston (22-7, 11-4 C-USA enters Saturday's game after a tough 73-68 victory against UCF at Hofheinz Pavilion. Seniors Tafari Toney, Lanny Smith, Marcus Malone, Robert McKiver and Dion Dowell were honored prior to their last regular-season home game.
Toney finished with a career-high 19 points, while Smith tallied 16 points and four assists. Malone finished with five points, including a 3-pointer with 35 seconds left to give the Cougars a four-point lead.
McKiver leads the Cougars with 22.9 points per game and is the reigning C USA Co-Player of the Week after pouring in a career-high 52 points against C-USA rival Southern Miss.
Dowell leads the Cougars with a team-high 6.6 rebounds per game.
With the win Wednesday, the Cougars secured the No. 3 seed and a first round bye in the C-USA Championship at FedEx Forum March 12-16. UH will play the winner of the showdown between the No. 6 /No. 11 seeds at 2:30 p.m., Thursday.

UTEP (16-12 C-USA 7-8) enters Saturday's game after losing five of its last seven games. Earlier this season, the Cougars beat UTEP 77-72 at Hofheinz Pavilion.
The Miners hold a 6-4 edge in the all-time series with all six wins coming in El Paso.
Junior guard Stefon Jackson leads the Miners with 24.3 points and 5.6
rebounds per game.
