HOUSTON - For the second straight day, University of Houston junior forward TaShawn Thomas earned some postseason hardware when he was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District 25 Second Team.

On Tuesday, Thomas became the Cougars' first American Athletic Conference postseason award recipient when he was named to the league's Second Team.

This season, Thomas leads the Cougars with 15.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.6 blocks and 1.6 steals per game. The Killeen, Texas, native has started all 93 games during his collegiate career and recently became only the fourth player in school history to record 1,300+ points, 800+ rebounds and 200+ blocks during his career, joining Houston greats Hakeem Olajuwon, Dwight Davis and Greg Anderson.

He became just the 44th player in school history to score more than 1,000 points in his career earlier this season and currently stands in 19th place with 1,361 points. Thomas already has established himself as one of the school's top-10 career rebounds with 816 boards and ranks among the league and national leaders with nine double-doubles in 2013-14.

He also currently ranks among the nation's top-30 leaders in field-goal percentage (.590, 13th) and blocked shots per game (2.68, 29th).



Thomas was joined on the Second Team by Cincinnati forward Justin Jackson, Memphis forward Shaq Goodwin SMU forward Markus Kennedy and Louisville forward Montrezl Harrell.

The First Team consisted of Cincinnati guard Sean Kilpatrick, UConn guard Shabazz Napier, Louisville guard Russ Smith, Memphis guard Joe Jackson and SMU guard Nic Moore.

Thomas and his Houston teammates face No. 3 seed and No. 25/23 SMU at noon, Thursday, during The American Quarterfinals inside Memphis' FedExForum. It will be the seventh nationally ranked opponents the Cougars have faced this season.

With a win against the Mustangs, Houston advances to Friday's Semifinals to face the winner of No. 2 seed No. 5/5 Louisville, No. 7 seed Rutgers or No. 10 seed USF.
