Men's Basketball Arrives in Spokane for NCAA Tournament Preps

NCAA TOURNAMENT CENTRAL | TICKETS | BRACKET (PDF) SPOKANE, Wash. - Preparing for its first NCAA Tournament appearance in nearly two decades, the University of Houston men's basketball team held its first workout in the Pacific Northwest on Wednesday. After packing the bus and a round of interviews with local media, Houston players, coaches, administrators and fans left the Athletics/Alumni Center at 7 a.m., Wednesday, for Hobby Airport. Following a four-hour flight, the team landed in Spokane and arrived at their hotel. The Cougars enjoyed lunch and then got some much-deserved rest before heading to West Valley High School for a 90-minute workout. Returning home to clean up, players and coaches left Wednesday evening for dinner at a local Italian restaurant before calling it a night. The Cougars meet No. 4 seed #20/20 Maryland around 6:40 p.m. (PDT)/8:40 p.m. (CDT) during the NCAA Tournament Midwest Region First Round at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena. Houston will play 30 minutes following the (5) Michigan State-(12) New Mexico State game which begins at 4:20 p.m. (PDT)/6:20 p.m. (CDT), Friday. This will be the team's first NCAA Tournament appearance since a 1992 loss to Georgia Tech in the Midwest Region First Round in Milwaukee. The Cougars will take part in their first official day at the NCAA Tournament on Thursday. Head coach Tom Penders and selected players will hold press conferences from 6 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. (PDT), before the team holds its 40-minute, open workout at Spokane Arena, beginning at 6:40 pm. (PDT).
