Basketball Dedicates Guy V. Lewis Development Facility

April 4, 2016

HOUSTON – University of Houston Men’s and Women’s Basketball coaches and student-athletes and University and Athletics administrators gathered Sunday afternoon to officially dedicate the Guy V. Lewis Development Facility.

Located at the corner of Holman Street and Cullen Boulevard on the University campus, the $25-million Guy V. Lewis Development Facility serves as the home for the Houston Men’s and Women’s Basketball programs. Coaches and student athletes from both teams moved into the new facility in December.

On Sunday, UH President Renu Khator, Vice President for Athletics Hunter Yurachek, Men’s Head Coach Kelvin Sampson and Women’s Head Coach Ron Hughey joined members of Lewis’ family, Athletics donors, current and former Regents and student-athletes from the 2015-16 Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams in a special ceremony on David Marrs Court in the facility.

After Khator and Yurachek spoke, CBS Sports broadcasting great Jim Nantz described the impact Lewis had on his life as a member of the Houston Men’s Golf team and future broadcaster and then discussed the new facility, recent Athletics capital improvements and its impact on recruiting with Sampson and Hughey.

ABOUT THE GUY V. LEWIS DEVELOPMENT FACILITY
The 53,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art facility provides the environment that the Houston Men's and Women's Basketball student-athletes need to excel throughout the season in all areas. The first level houses a dedicated practice court for each team as well as sports performance and sports medicine areas, which will be used by both programs.

The second level features the teams' areas, which include locker rooms, team rooms and academic/film theaters. The team rooms contain spacious, modern lockers, multiple video screens for television and comfortable furniture. The third level holds office space for both Men's and Women's Basketball coaching and support staffs.

The facility was designed by DLR Group with Page, while Austin Commercial served as the construction manager.
