    University of Houston freshman center Alton Ford has been named to the NCAA fourth-team Freshman All-American by Bob Gibbons All-Star Report. Ford averaged 10.6 points and 5.7 rebounds in 26 games for the Cougars in 2000-01. His averages rank among Conference USA all-time freshmen leaders in both categories and he ranks seventh among Houston's all-time freshmen scoring leaders and fifth among the school's all-time freshmen rebounding leaders.

    Ford ended the 2000-01 season starting the final seven games of the season and 18 times overall. During Houston's final seven contests, Ford led the Cougars in scoring four times and rebounding during three games.

    He scored a career-high 24 points in Houston's final regular season game against Tulane and netted 22 points against Saint Louis during the regular season. He scored 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds against the Billikens in the Conference USA Tournament.
