FORT WORTH, Texas - University of Houston men's basketball signee TaShawn Thomas scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the North Team to a 103-94 win against the South squad during the 66th annual Texas High School Coaches Association All-Star Basketball Game.
Thomas hit 6-of-7 shots from the field, including a 3-pointer, and added an assist in only 16 minutes of action inside Daniel-Meyer Coliseum on the campus of TCU. The Killeen, Texas, native also drained all three of his attempts from the free throw line.
Monday's success was nothing new for Thomas. He was picked as the No. 27 power forward nationally by Scout.com and was ranked No. 22 by Rivals.com in the state of Texas.
As a senior in 2010-11, he averaged 21.0 points, 13.0 rebounds and 4.0 blocks per game on the way to being named the All-Area and District Most Valuable Player for the second straight season.
Thomas chose Houston over Alabama, Memphis, California, Colorado, Colorado State and Temple. He is one of eight Cougars who will be making their debuts in the Scarlet and White in 2011-12.
