HOUSTON - The University of Houston Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, Houston IMG Sports Network and Clear Channel Media and Entertainment have agreed to a multi-year extension of the current radio flagship affiliation agreement with SportsTalk 790 AM (KBME).
"We are excited to continue our relationship with Clear Channel and SportsTalk 790. This partnership is imperative to the overall growth of our department as we transition from Conference USA to an extremely bright future in the BIG EAST Conference," Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Mack Rhoades said. "As we continue to grow our brand, it is critical that we reach out to everyone in the Houston community. With Clear Channel's and Sports Talk 790's extensive reach, we will achieve that goal and tell more fans about the great student-athletes and coaches in our Athletics Department."
Starting this season, Football broadcasts will include an hour-long Tailgate Show, a 30-minute pregame show, the game broadcast and a 30-minute postgame show. Altogether, SportsTalk 790 will provide nearly six hours of broadcasting on game days.
Men's Basketball broadcasts will include a 30-minute pregame show, game broadcast and a 30-minute postgame show.
"We are excited to continue our partnership with SportsTalk 790 and Clear Channel and to bring increased programming to UH fans," said Pat Streko, Houston IMG Sports Marketing general manager. "Continuing our relationship with the market leader ensures that Houston Athletics will continue to be an integral part of the sports landscape in Houston. An increase in our Football pregame show coupled with additional broadcasts of the Tony Levine Show and the James Dickey Show will provide UH fans throughout the region with expanded coverage."
"We are thrilled to renew our partnership with the University of Houston and IMG for another 3 years. The University of Houston and its athletic program have always portrayed the highest degree of excellence both on and off the field," said Eddie Martiny, Clear Channel president and market manager. "For general managers, those are the types of institutions you love to align your properties with. This longstanding partnership only reinforces SportsTalk 790's love for the Houston community and all things sports in this great city."
The broadcast teams for Football and Men's Basketball games will return with Tom Franklin serving as the play-by-play announcer for both programs. He will be joined on the Football broadcasts with Ted Pardee as analyst and Chuck Brown on the sidelines.
Cougar legend and Basketball Hall of Famer Elvin Hayes returns as the analyst for the Men's Basketball broadcasts.
In addition to the Football and Men's Basketball game broadcasts, SportsTalk 790 will broadcast the coach's radio shows for football head coach Tony Levine and men's basketball head coach James Dickey.
Levine's weekly shows will air from 7 to 8 p.m., Wednesdays, during the regular season. Dickey's show can be heard live on Mondays from 7 to 8 p.m., each week, beginning in January.
SportsTalk 790 AM, which recently obtained the rights to the Houston Rockets, also will broadcast the annual spring football game and a weekly update focusing on Houston Athletics beginning in August and continuing through May.
The Houston IMG Sports Network is part of IMG College Audio, the nation's largest independent sports radio network producing nearly 30,000 hours of intercollegiate sports programming each year.
