HOUSTON - The University of Houston men's basketball team took its first steps toward the 2009-10 season Monday with the start of its off-season workouts.
After using the first week of school to become acclimated to their class schedules, the Cougars can work out as a team in the Elmer Redd Strength and Conditioning Center or in groups of four at Hofheinz Pavilion. However, NCAA regulations limit the number of days and the amount of time per week that players can practice.
Beginning Sept. 15, the Cougars can practice as a team at Hofheinz Pavilion but for no more than two hours per week.
The Cougars begin their official practice schedule on Oct. 16.
Fans can renew their season tickets or purchase new season tickets on-line at UHCougars.com by clicking the "Tickets" link, by calling 713-GO-COOGS (462-6647) or by visiting the Athletics Ticket Office on the first floor of the Athletics/Alumni Center during regular business hours, Monday through Friday
Season tickets can be purchased for as low as $135.
The Cougars open the 2009-10 season at 7 p.m., Nov. 17, when they play host to Nicholls State inside Hofheinz Pavilion. It will be the first of seven non-conference home games that Cougar fans will enjoy.
The team enjoys six home games in the month of December, beginning Dec. 6 against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The home slate continues with showdowns against Troy (Dec. 14), Mississippi State (Dec. 19), The Citadel (Dec. 21), TCU (Dec. 23) and Louisiana Tech (Dec. 29).
