HOUSTON - The University of Houston Men’s Basketball program unveiled its 2016-17 schedule on Thursday afternoon.
Once again, all 18 games on the Cougars’ American Athletic Conference schedule as well as Houston’s complete home slate during the final season inside Hofheinz Pavilion will be shown on CBS Sports Network and the ESPN family of networks.
The Cougars, who finished 22-10 and competed in the National Invitational Tournament for the first time in a decade a year ago, return three starters, including All-American Athletic Conference Team performer and Yates High School product Damyean Dotson and All-Rookie Team member and Houston native Galen Robinson, Jr.
Houston was one of only two teams in the league, which defeated every American Athletic Conference rival at least once during the regular season.
With only the 15th 22-win season in school history, the Cougars boasted a 9-game improvement from their 13-19 mark in 2014-15. That total ranked as the 13th-highest improvement among 351 NCAA Division I schools in 2015-16.
Game times and television networks for remaining games will be announced at a later date. Fans should stay tuned to UHCougars.com and the Cougars’ social media platforms for the latest information.
AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE SCHEDULE
For the second straight season, the Cougars begin American Athletic Conference play with a two-game road trip. Houston opens the conference slate on Dec. 28 at UConn in Hartford, Conn., and follow that with a New Year’s Eve showdown at USF in Tampa, Fla.
The Cougars return to the friendly confines of Hofheinz Pavilion to play host to Tulsa (Jan. 4) and Cincinnati (Jan. 7) and follow that with two straight road contests at East Carolina (Jan. 11) and at UCF (Jan. 14).
Houston closes out the month of January with home games in three of its final four contests. The Cougars meet Memphis on Jan. 19 inside Hofheinz Pavilion before squaring off at SMU on Jan. 21 in Dallas. From there, Houston meets Tulane (Jan. 24) and Temple (Jan. 28) with both games inside Hofheinz Pavilion.
After hosting UCF on Feb. 1 inside Hofheinz Pavilion, the Cougars travel to Tulane (Feb. 8) and then to Tulsa (Feb. 11) before playing SMU (Feb. 18) and UConn (Feb. 22) in back-to-back home tilts.
Houston meets Memphis on Feb. 2 in Memphis, Tenn., and takes on Cincinnati in Ohio on March 2 before celebrating Senior Night and the final regular-season home game inside Hofheinz Pavilion against East Carolina on March 5.
With the completion of the regular season, the Cougars head to Hartford, Conn., to compete in the American Athletic Conference Championship. That tournament opens March 9 inside the XL Center with the winner of the league’s annual postseason event earning a bid to the NCAA Tournament.
A year ago, the Cougars tied for third in the league’s regular-season standings and competed as the No. 2 seed at the American Championship.
The Cougars previously released their non-conference schedule. That slate includes seven regular-season home games and two exhibition contests inside Hofheinz Pavilion and a pair of road contests against Southeastern Conference opponents LSU and Arkansas.
Houston opens the year Nov. 5 when it faces UNC Pembroke inside Hofheinz Pavilion in the team’s first exhibition contest. That game will have special meaning for Head Coach Kelvin Sampson, who was an award-winning basketball and baseball star with the Braves from 1974 to 1978.
Season tickets for 16 regular-season games begin for as low as $80 during the final season inside Hofheinz Pavilion.

FERTITTA CENTER COMING SOON
Thanks to a generous $20 million gift from University of Houston Board of Regents Chairman Tilman J. Fertitta and his family, the Cougars will compete in the Fertitta Center during the 2018-19 season.
Following the 2016-17 season, Hofheinz Pavilion will undergo a $60 million renovation. The Fertitta Center will feature a premium club area and a courtside club. The reconfigured bowl will move mid-court seating locations closer to game action with floor-level seating opposite the team benches for UH students.
Renovations include a new audio system, sports lighting and video boards as well as new concession stands and expanded restrooms. The facility’s exterior also will be refreshed.
