HOUSTON - The University of Houston men's basketball team will compete at least five times on television during the 2008-09 season, head coach Tom Penders announced Tuesday.

This will be the 30th straight season that the Cougars will play at least one game in front of a television audience. It also marks the 12th consecutive year that UH will appear on television at least three times.

The Cougars open their television schedule when they face Mississippi State at 3 p.m., Jan. 3 on Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast (CSS) and travel to face Arizona at 5 p.m. (Central), Jan. 24 on Fox Sports Arizona.

In Conference USA play, the Cougars face Memphis at noon, Jan. 31 on CBS College Sports, the first of three games on that network. From there, UH faces UCF at 6 p.m. (Central), Feb. 4 in Orlando before playing host to Memphis at 7 p.m., March 4 at Hofheinz Pavilion.

Additional Houston games also could be shown on television. If the Cougars defeat Georgia Southern in the season opener during the first round of the Durham Regional at the 2K Sports Classic Benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer, they will meet the winner of the Duke-Presbyterian game at 8 p.m. (Central), Nov. 11, on ESPNU in the Regional championship game.

Houston's games are just part of Conference USA's complete television schedule. More than 35 nationally televised men's basketball games are slated to feature Conference USA teams in 2008-09. Conference duels featuring all 12 member institutions combine with non-conference games against teams from the ACC, Big East, Big 12 and SEC to highlight C-USA's national package on CBS, CBS College Sports Network, ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU.

More than a dozen men's basketball games will be shown on the ESPN family of networks, while CBS College Sports Network will showcase 19 regular-season games and the C-USA Championship semifinals to a national audience.

CBS will once again air the C-USA Championship title game at 10:35 a.m. (Central), March 14, from FedExForum in Memphis, Tenn. The Memphis Tigers will also play two road games that will be televised on CBS, playing at Georgetown on Dec. 13 and at Tennessee Jan. 24. Additionally, 14 regional telecasts on CSS already have been confirmed, and several more regional and local games are expected to be announced by the start of the season.

Coverage of C-USA basketball is also available online through the C-USA Network, available exclusively on the league's official website ConferenceUSA.com, C-USA All-Access and all 12 team sites.

The Cougars take their first step toward the 2008-09 season Friday afternoon with the start of practice at Hofheinz Pavilion.
