HOUSTON - The University of Houston men's basketball team will compete on television 11 times during the regular season, head coach James Dickey announced Thursday evening.

This marks the 32nd consecutive season that the Cougars will play on television and will be the sixth straight season that the team will make at least nine television appearances. Houston has played nearly 400 games on television during the program's history, winning more than 200 of those contests.

"We are excited about our television appearances and the exposure this gives our University and our basketball program. We look forward to the 11 regular-season games broadcast this season," Dickey said. "Our fans in Houston and across the country will enjoy watching the Cougars in action."

The Cougars will make five appearances on CBS College Sports, four on Comcast Sports Southwest (CSS) and one on the Southland Conference Television Network.

The television slate opens at 2 p.m., Dec. 4, when the Cougars travel to Huntsville, Texas, to meet Sam Houston State on the Southland Conference Television Network.

From there, the team makes its season debut on CSS at 7 p.m., Dec. 6 against Nevada at Hofheinz Pavilion. The Cougars also play UTSA (6 p.m., Dec. 11), at Conference USA-rival Southern Miss (8 p.m., Jan. 5), at crosstown-rival Rice (8 p.m., Jan. 26) and at East Carolina (5 p.m., Jan. 29) on that network.

Houston plays host to C-USA Tulsa at 6 p.m., Jan. 19, at Hofheinz Pavilion on CBS College Sports. The Cougars will compete four more times on that network, playing Marshall (8 p.m., Feb. 1), at UTEP (8:05 p.m., Feb. 19), at Memphis (8 p.m., Feb. 22) and against UAB (5 p.m., Feb. 26).

Games at the C-USA Championship and other postseason tournaments also may be televised and will be announced at a later date. Fans should visit UHCougars.com for the latest information about the Cougars' television schedule.

A year ago, the Cougars used a strong surge at the end of the season to win four straight games in as many days to claim the GMC Sierra Conference USA Championship title and advance to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in nearly two decades.

With seven returning players from that team and an award-winning signing class, Dickey and his coaches are planning for an exciting 2010-11 campaign.

Houston has enjoyed tremendous success in front of the hometown fans inside Hofheinz Pavilion during recent years. The Cougars have won at least 10 home games in each of the last six seasons, a first since the facility opened with nine consecutive 10+-win home seasons.
