HOUSTON - As the 2011-12 season continues to draw closer, excitement surrounds the University of Houston men's basketball program, and Cougar fans are going to love their team this season... Director of Athletics Mack Rhoades guarantees it.
As part of the Satisfaction Guaranteed plan, fans who purchase season tickets in 2011-12 and are not satisfied with their game-day experience by Feb. 1 can return their remaining tickets and receive a full refund.
However, Rhoades is confident that won't be necessary.
"This is a great time to be a part of Houston Athletics, and we are excited about the 2011-12 basketball season. When you look at entertainment value across the city and across the area, our basketball program ranks at the top in keeping our fans happy," Rhoades said. "Hofheinz Pavilion is a wonderful venue to watch the Cougars compete, and I know all our fans will enjoy the game-day atmosphere throughout the season."
The Cougars' 2011-12 schedule features opponents that combined for 10 postseason appearances a year ago, including four to the NCAA Tournament. That group captured eight conference championships and combined for more than 400 total wins with 10 teams winning 20 or more games in 2010-11.
Each of the games will feature a variety of fan-friendly promotions and activities throughout the season. Several national halftime acts are currently being scheduled as well as acts from performing groups from around the community. Performances from the UH Band, Cougar Dolls and cheerleaders also will play key roles in the excitement and enthusiasm of each game day.
"Many of our promotions will be interactive and encourage our fans to make a difference and be a part of our home court advantage," Assistant AD for Marketing, Promotions and Sales Rob Stewart said. "As we reach out to our fans during games and they become more and more involved, we will make Hofheinz Pavilion a challenging place to play for all our opponents."
Fans should stay tuned to UHCougars.com for the latest information about the basketball promotions schedule.
Between the exciting play on the court and the fun-filled atmosphere in the stands, head coach James Dickey can't wait for the start of the season. "Our players are athletic, competitive and dedicated," said Dickey, who is in his second year with the Cougars. "They are ready to start the season, and I know our fans will appreciate their sacrifice, effort and enthusiasm throughout the season."
The excitement is quickly spreading among Cougar fans. With nearly a month before the start of the regular season, Cougar Basketball already has topped last year's season-ticket total, and that number continues to rise quickly. In addition, for the first time in several years, all floor seats at Hofheinz Pavilion have been sold out.
Rhoades and Dickey recently spoke to a packed house evening during the Houston Basketball Tip-Off Reception in the Athletics/Alumni Center. Featuring coaches, student-athletes and administrators from both the men's and women's teams, the Reception was the Cougars' largest preseason event in recent history.
The 2011-12 season is only the start of a bright future for the Cougars. Anticipation is building for the start of the early signing period (Nov. 9-16) in addition to the start of preseason action on Nov. 8 against Concordia University. The team begins the regular season at 7 p.m., Nov. 12, when they meet Grambling State, the first of 18 home games inside Hofheinz Pavilion.
Fans who purchase season tickets in 2011-12 will have first right of refusal for their same seats the following season. That's the only way fans can guarantee their spots for the 2012-13 campaign and beyond.
Men's basketball season tickets are now available at the Houston Athletics Ticket Office. General admission season tickets begin as low as $135, while reserved seating season tickets start as low as $195.
Families will enjoy the Family Fun Plan. For only $299, families receive two adult and two youth general admission season tickets. Additional youth season tickets in the Family Fun Plan can be purchased for $75 each.
Fans can order their season tickets by calling 713-GO-COOGS (462-6647) or by visiting UHCougars.com and clicking the Tickets tab and following the appropriate links.
