HOUSTON -- After leading the Cougars to an impressive season-opening win, University of Houston freshman TaShawn Thomas recently was honored as the Conference USA Freshman of the Week.
Making his college debut as a starter against Grambling State on Saturday, Thomas scored 13 points and had eight rebounds. The Killeen, Texas, native did a little of everything for the Cougars, finishing with three blocks, five assists and a pair of steals.
It was the first C-USA Freshman of the Week award for Thomas.
Tulsa's Steven Idlet was named as the league's Player of the Week.
Thomas and the Cougars return to action at 7 p.m., Friday, when they meet Arkansas inside Verizon Arena in North Little Rock, Ark.

Fans can hear the game live on SportsTalk 790 AM with Brett Dolan calling the play-by-play action and Cougar legend Elvin Hayes providing analysis.
Houston returns to the friendly confines of Hofheinz Pavilion when it plays host to Oakland at 7:15 p.m., Tuesday. That game will be part of a doubleheader with the Houston women's team, which faces Oral Roberts at 5 p.m., Tuesday.
