HOUSTON -- The University of Houston Men's Basketball program returns to action at 6:30 p.m. (CST) Monday when it faces George Mason on the first day of the Gulf Coast Showcase inside Germain Arena.
The Cougars enter this week's tournament on the heels of an 84-72 exhibition win over Angelo State on Wednesday inside Hofheinz Pavilion.
Against the Rams, senior guard and 2016 Preseason All-American Athletic Conference First-Team selection Damyean Dotson led all players with 20 points and added three 3-pointers, while fellow Preseason All-Conference honoree Rob Gray totaled 15 points with three rebounds and two assists.
Monday's game will be the Cougars' first regular-season contest since taking a 93-52 win over Morgan State on Nov. 11 inside Hofheinz Pavilion. It marked the second straight season in which the Cougars enjoyed a 41-point, season-opening victory.

Entering the Gulf Coast Showcase, George Mason has posted a 1-2 record this season.
In their most recent action, the Patriots dropped a 78-76 decision to Mount St. Mary's on Friday in Fairfax, Va.
Senior forward Jalen Jenkins led GMU with 23 points on 11-of-14 shooting from the field and added 11 rebounds... Senior guard Marquise Moore totaled 19 points with a game-high 13 rebounds and a team-high four assists in the loss.
This season, Jenkins leads the team with 17.3 points and 9.7 rebounds per game... Moore ranks second among the Patriots with 17.0 points and 7.7 rebounds per contest... Sophomore guard Otis Livingston II averages 12.0 points and a team-best 3.7 assists per game, while sophomore guard Jaire Grayer ranks fourth with 10.0 points per game. Head Coach Dave Paulsen is in his second year at George Mason and his 23rd season as a collegiate head coach. He has compiled a 408-237 career record and is 12-23 during his George Mason tenure.
Previously built a 50-28 record at St. Lawrence (1994-97), a 42-39 record at Le Moyne (1997-00), a 170-53 record at Williams (2000-08) and a 134-94 record at Bucknell (2008-15).
Monday's game will be the first time that Paulsen has faced Houston during his career
1987 graduate of Williams.
REGULAR-SEASON TOURNAMENT HISTORY
Houston enters this week's Gulf Coast Showcase with a 118-66 all-time record during its history in regular-season tournaments.
This marks the fourth straight season that Houston has competed in a regular-season tournament.
In 2015-16, the Cougars finished 3-1 at the Global Sports Classic... Houston enjoyed a 73-65 win over North Carolina Central and claimed an 81-65 victory over Eastern Illinois -- both inside Hofheinz Pavilion -- during the tournament's Regional round.
In the Championship round, the Cougars dropped a 78-68 decision to Grand Canyon before defeating Wyoming 94-89 in double-overtime in the third-place game.
Houston has not won a regular-season tournament since defeating UC Irvine and Kent State at the Disneyland Freedom Bowl Classic on Dec. 6-7, 1991.
Kelvin Sampson in REGULAR-SEASON TOURNAMENTS
Head Coach Kelvin Sampson has enjoyed tremendous success in regular-season tournaments during his career... Entering the Gulf Coast Showcase, Sampson has posted a 66-32 record in regular-season tournaments in more than 27 seasons as a collegiate head coach.
His teams have won 15 regular-season tournament championships during his career.
Washington State teams won four titles at the 1990 UAB Classic; 1991 Los Angeles Classic; 1992 Texaco Star Classic and 1993 San Juan Shootout.
Oklahoma teams captured 11 championships at the 1995 All-College Tournament; 1997 AllCollege Tournament; 1999 All-College Tournament; 1999 Top of the World Classic; 1999 Sooner Invitational; 1999 All-College Invitational; 2000 Sooner Invitational; 2000 Big Island Invitational; 2000 All-College Tournament; 2002 Sooner Invitational and 2003 Sooner Invitational.
at Houston: Sampson has compiled a 4-4 record in regular-season tournaments as a Cougar.
2014-15 Houston team went 1-3 in the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic... His 2015-16 Houston team posted a 3-1 mark at the Global Sports Classic to tie for third.
This marks the first time during Sampson's Houston tenure that the Cougars have not competed at a regular-season tournament in Las Vegas.
Following Monday's game against George Mason, the Cougars continue their stay at the Gulf Coast Showcase on Tuesday.
With a win against George Mason, the Cougars will face the winner of Kent State-South Dakota at 6:30 p.m. (CST), Tuesday. With a loss to George Mason, the Cougars will face the loser of Kent State-South Dakota at 12:30 p.m. (CST) Tuesday.
Houston wraps up its stay at the Gulf Coast Showcase on Tuesday with game time and opponent being determined by Monday's and Tuesday's outcomes.
The Cougars return to the friendly confines of Hofheinz Pavilion when they play host to Cornell at 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 26.
