Men's Basketball Welcomes Guard Galen Robinson, Jr.

Nov. 21, 2014

HOUSTON - Westbury Christian point guard Galen Robinson, Jr., will continue his basketball career in his hometown after recently signing a National Letter of Intent with the University of Houston Men's Basketball program.

Robinson, who stands at 6-feet-tall and weighs 170 pounds, selected the Cougars over TCU in a ceremony at his school earlier this week.

"If I had to describe Galen in one word, I would say winner. We are getting the total package. He is a leader, a high character and comes from a great family and a winning program," head coach Kelvin Sampson said. "We are committed to recruiting the best high school players in Houston that fit us, and we are extremely excited about Galen joining our program."

Early in his senior season, Robinson reached double figures through the first six games, including a 36-point effort against San Antonio Central Catholic.

As a junior for head coach Trey Austin, Robinson averaged 17.0 points, 6.0 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game to help lead Westbury Christian to the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Class 4A state championship. In the state tournament quarterfinals, he buried a 3-pointer from the corner with just 0.8 seconds remaining to lift the Wildcats to a 50-49 win over San Antonio Christian in Giddings.

Robinson also has been a member of championship teams with Texas PRO's AAU team for head coach Marland Lowe.

Robinson will become the second Westbury Christian product among the Cougars. Junior point guard L.J. Rose competed for the Wildcats during the 2011-12 season.

His father, Galen Robinson, Sr., competed for the Cougars from 1994 to 1998, scoring 1,135 points in 96 games. The elder Robinson led the Cougars in scoring during each of his last two seasons, including 17.0 points per game as a junior during the 1996-97 campaign on the way to USBWA All-District honors.

Robinson is the second student-athlete to sign with Houston during the fall period. Paris Junior College product Xavier Dupree inked an NLI with the Cougars earlier this week.
