Devonta Pollard Earns Place on The American Honor Roll

Nov. 24, 2014

HOUSTON - For the second consecutive week, University of Houston junior forward Devonta Pollard was honored by the American Athletic Conference, earning a place on the league's Weekly Honor Roll.

Pollard scored 19 points with 13 rebounds for the first double-double of his career to lead the Cougars to a 72-57 win in the home opener inside Hofheinz Pavilion on Saturday. The Porterville, Miss., native tied his career high in scoring and set a personal best with his rebounding total.

Pollard was part of a steady defensive effort for the Cougars, who outrebounded the Bears 62-36. It was the first time since Dec. 2, 1989, that the Cougars posted 62+ rebounds in a single game.

He was honored as the league's Player of the Week on Nov. 17 after scoring 19 points and leading a second-half rally in the season-opening win at Murray State.

Pollard was joined on the Weekly Honor Roll by UCF guard B.J. Taylor, Cincinnati forward Octavius Ellis, Temple guard Will Cummings and Tulsa forward D'Andre Wright.

UConn swept the league's weekly awards as senior guard Ryan Boatright was named the Player of the Week and freshman guard Daniel Hamilton was recognized as the Rookie of the Week.

Pollard and his teammates return to action at 6 p.m. (CST), Tuesday, when they take on Harvard inside Lavietes Pavilion in Cambridge, Mass. It will be the first meeting against the Crimson in school history.
