HOUSTON - University of Houston Men's Basketball coaches, student-athletes and support staff members celebrated Thanksgiving on Thursday afternoon by serving lunch to Star of Hope Mission residents at the Hard Rock Café in downtown Houston.
This marked the fifth consecutive season that the Cougars took part in this community service event.
Following a Thursday morning workout inside Hofheinz Pavilion, the Cougars cleaned up and then headed to downtown Houston for the event. Before lunch, coaches and student-athletes met with residents in the restaurant courtyard, taking pictures, handing out posters and schedule cards and signing autographs.
From there, residents and team members headed inside for a Thanksgiving lunch. The Cougars handed out plates of turkey, stuffing, vegetables and bread and passed out drinks and desserts.
Earlier this month, the Cougars held a Texas Special Olympics Basketball Camp inside Hofheinz Pavilion, welcoming more than 50 special-needs students from Houston-area middle schools to their home gym
The Cougars return to the friendly confines of Hofheinz Pavilion to open the month of December with a five-game homestand. That stand begins at 7 p.m., Dec. 4 against Texas-Pan American and continues against Abilene Christian (Dec. 6), Houston Baptist (Dec. 16), Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Dec. 17) and South Carolina State (Dec. 20).
The last two games of the stand will be part of the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic Regional Round.
