HOUSTON - After leading the Cougars to a win with the first double-double of his career, University of Houston freshman forward Fabian White Jr. was honored Monday afternoon as the American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week.
White, who competed at Atascocita High School before joining the Cougars, scored a career-high 14 points and led all players with 12 rebounds in a 97-58 win over UIW on Saturday night. He did a little bit of everything well, connecting on all but one of his seven field goal attempts and adding three blocked shots and three steals.
He became only the 14th freshman in Houston history to record a double-double and the first since Danuel House during the 2012-13 season.
White is currently averaging 5.0 points and 4.2 rebounds per game and ranks second on the team with 1.0 blocks per contest.
Cincinnati’s Gary Clark was named the league’s Player of the Week, while Landry Shamet (Wichita State), Malik Martin (USF), Jimario Rivers (Memphis), Corey Henderson Jr. (Tulsa) and Jalen Adams (UConn) were named to the Honor Roll.
White and the Cougars continue their four-game homestand when they play host to New Orleans at 7 p.m., Wednesday, inside H&PE Arena.
Fans can purchase season tickets, mini-plans and single-game tickets with season tickets for as low as $100 and single-game tickets starting at only $12. Fans can purchase tickets online at UHCougars.com/tickets or by calling the Athletics Ticket Office at 713-GO-COOGS (462-6647).
