Houston - The University of Houston men's basketball team will look to win its fourth game of the 2006-07 season when the Cougars play host to intrastate rival Prairie View A&M on Wednesday night, Nov. 29, at Hofheinz Pavilion. The game tips off at 7:00 p.m. Fans can purchase general admission tickets for half-price ($5) for the game.

Houston enters the game looking to bounce back from an 81-78 loss at Saint Louis last Saturday afternoon. The Cougars had opened the season winning their first three games at Rhode Island and against Monmouth and Grambling State. Houston beat Rhode Island, 102-99, in overtime on Nov. 13, before opening its home schedule with an 89-80 victory over Monmouth on Nov. 18. Houston also beat Grambling State, 96-61, in its last home game on Nov. 22.

Guards Robert McKiver and Oliver Lafayette, who both rank among the top three scoring leaders in Conference USA this season, lead the Cougars. McKiver is averaging 24.5 points per contest, and led Houston with a career-high 33 points at Rhode Island and 25 points against Grambling State. Lafayette, who is averaging 21.8 points per game, led Houston with a season-high 29 points against Monmouth and 24 points at Saint Louis. . The Cougars also boast two of the top five rebounding leaders in C-USA. Junior guard Robert Lee leads the league with 9.3 rebounds per game after he grabbed a career-high of 17 rebounds at Saint Louis. Lee also scored 13 points against the Billikens, making him the first Cougar to record a double-double performance this season. He made his first start against Grambling State, and registered 18 points and eight rebounds.

Senior forward Jahmar Thorpe is one of two returning starters in Houston's lineup this season, and he ranks fifth among C-USA leaders with 8.0 rebounds per game after pulling down nine boards at Saint Louis. Thorpe averages 9.8 points per game for the Cougars.

Prairie View A&M is under the direction of first-year head coach Byron Rimm, who served as an assistant coach with the Panthers last season after leading Jarvis Christian of the NAIA for three years. The Panthers have five returning players from last year's team. Senior Chris Gaines has played in four games this season, and leads the team in scoring with 10.0 points per game. Senior center Adenilson Clementino is averaging 4.3 points and leads the team in rebounding with a 5.5 average. Freshman guard Ivory McGilvery is averaging 7.7 points per contest, and junior guard Derek Johnson averages 6.8 points and leads the team with 2.5 assists per contest.

This is Houston's last home game until December 30, when the Cougars return from the Rainbow Classic and play host to UNLV at 7:00 p.m. UH also plays at VCU this Saturday, Dec. 2, and at Arizona on Dec. 17 before playing in the Rainbow Classic on Dec. 21-23.
