HOUSTON - After taking nearly two weeks off, the University of Houston men's basketball team finally returns to action at 8 p.m., Saturday, when it plays host to North Texas at 8 p.m., Saturday, inside Hofheinz Pavilion.
Fans should note that Saturday's starting time was changed to 8 p.m., earlier in the week to avoid any conflicts with the Cougar Football game, scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m., Saturday at Rice Stadium.
Saturday's game will be the Cougars' first action since a dominating 110-57 win over Alcorn State on Nov. 18 inside Hofheinz Pavilion. In that game, junior guard Kelvin Lewis led the Cougars with 23 players, while junior guard Aubrey Coleman poured in 20 points on 9-of-13 shooting, the fourth straight game the Houston native increased his scoring total.
Senior center Marcus Cousin recorded his second double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds against the Braves and leads the Cougars with 10.0 rebounds per game.
It was the Cougars' first 100-point game since early in the 2005-06 season.
Saturday's game also will be the finale of the Cougars' season-long, three-game homestand. UH previously enjoyed wins over Western Kentucky and Alcorn State during their home stay.
This marks the first time since 2005 that the Cougars will meet North Texas on the hardwood. The Cougars own a 29-5 (.853) lead in the all-time series, which began during the 1946 season.
The Cougars bring a seven-game winning streak into Saturday's game. UH has not lost to the Mean Green since a 60-48 setback on Dec. 9, 1964.
The Cougars own a 16-2 lead against the Mean Green in Houston. UH has not lost a home decision to UNT since falling 66-65 on Jan. 30, 1964. UH also brings a four-game home winning streak against the Mean Green into this weekend's game.
