Houston vs. Kentucky Game Notes

- Houston improved to 10-1, and that is the Cougars' best start since 1983-84.

The crowd of 8,517 was the largest crowd to attend a game in Hofheinz Pavilion since 8,917 watched the Cougars played top-ranked Cincinnati on Feb. 17, 2000.

Houston head coach Tom Penders improved his career record to 594-401. His 594 wins are the seventh-highest total for active NCAA Division I coaches.

Dion Dowell led Houston with 19 points and nine rebounds. It is the second straight game and fourth-time overall in which he has led the Cougars in scoring. It also is the second-straight game and sixth contest overall in which he has led the Cougars in rebounding.

Robert McKiver also added 18 points for Houston. It is the fifth straight game and 10th-game overall in which he has scored in double figures.

Marcus Malone registered a season-high nine points and four steals off the bench. His four steals equals his career-best total. He also collected four steals against Southern Miss in the Conference USA Tournament on Mar. 8, 2007.

Houston senior point guard Lanny Smith scored a season-high 11 points and equaled his season-best in assists with eight. He also had eight against Charleston in the third round of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off.

Nick Mosley scored four points and grabbed four rebounds in the first half to give Houston a spark after Tafari Toney picked up his second foul. Mosley came into the game having scored just three points total in Houston's first 10 game.
