HOUSTON - The University of Houston men's basketball team begins a season-long five-game homestand when it plays host to UTSA at 7 p.m., Tuesday, inside Hofheinz Pavilion.

This will be the start of a busy week for the Cougars. Following Tuesday's game, the Cougars meet Rogers State for the second straight season at 7 p.m., Wednesday, inside Hofheinz Pavilion.

The stand continues with contests against North Carolina A&T (Dec. 28), Texas State (Dec. 30) and Conference USA-rival Tulsa (Jan. 4).

This game was originally scheduled for Dec. 10 in Houston but was postponed at the request of UTSA administrators due to the school's final examinations schedule.

The Cougars enter this week's game on the heels of a tough 79-74 loss to Oklahoma during the first game of the RAMADA All-College Classic on Saturday in Oklahoma City.

Against the Sooners, junior guard Jonathon Simmons led the Cougars with 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting and added a pair of 3-pointers. It was the Houston native's third straight 20-point game and moved him to within 0.6 points of the team's scoring lead.

Redshirt freshman guard Joseph Young and senior guard Darian Thibodeaux each chipped in with 10 points apiece in the loss.

This season, sophomore forward Alandise Harris leads the Cougars with 14.9 points per game, while Simmons is a close second at 14.3. Freshman forward TaShawn Thomas is tops among the Cougars with 8.7 rebounds per contest.

This will be the third straight season that these two teams will meet on the hardwood. The Cougars own a 5-3 lead in the all-time series, which began Dec. 12, 1981.

However, UTSA brings a two-game winning streak into Tuesday's game following a 68-63 win in Hofheinz Pavilion on Dec. 11, 2010.

The Roadrunners have captured their three victories in the series by a combined eight points.

ABOUT UTSA
UTSA brings a 5-4 overall record into this Tuesday's game and has split its six games. This will be UTSA's first game since Dec. 5 due to final examinations.

In their most recent action, UTSA used a 48-point second half to break open a close game on the way to a 74-52 win at Samford on Dec. 5. The Roadrunners shot 60.0 percent (30-of-50) from the field, including 76 percent (19-of-25) in the second half.

Against Samford, forward Jeromie Hill led four players in double digits with 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting. Guard Kannon Burrage added 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting, while Alex Vouyoukas added 11 points off the bench. Forward Stephen Franklin finished with 10 points and a game-high eight rebounds in the win.

This season, Burrage leads the Roadrunners with 16.2 points per game. Michael Hale III ranks second with 12.3 points per contest, and Hill stands third with 11.0 points per game. Hill also leads the team with 6.1 rebounds per game.

Head coach Brooks Thompson is in his sixth year at UTSA and as a head coach. He has compiled an 83-81 record during that time.

Thompson is 2-0 against the Cougars during his career with a win in each of the last two years.
