Houston Football was the unanimous pick to win the American West Division, receiving all 30 votes. The Cougars were chosen as the Conference favorite as well, earning 27 of the 30 first-place votes in the 2016 media poll.
The #HTownTakeover had a busy Monday following its ESPN Car Wash. Houston made its way to Newport, R.I. for the first Day of the #AmericanKickoff.

The American Athletic Conference has announced the lineup of 37 student-athletes who will be on-hand in Newport, Rhode Island, next week for the conference's annual Summer Kickoff and Media Days.
The 37 student-athletes will join The American's 12 head coaches at the Hyatt Regency Newport Aug. 1-2 for the first formal event of the 2016 football season.
The American's contingent includes 11 players who were named to the 2015 all-conference team, including five returning first-team selections. Four players who have been named to the 2016 Maxwell Award preseason watch list will be in attendance (Houston's Greg Ward Jr., USF's Marlon Mack and Temple's Jahad Thomas and Phillip Walker) as will two players named to the Bednarik Award watch list (USF's Deatrick Nichols and Tulane's Tanzel Smart).
Six of the 12 teams will bring their projected starting quarterbacks.
Live coverage of The American's Summer Kickoff and Media Days will begin Tuesday, Aug. 1, at 9 a.m. ET on The American Digital Network. ESPN3 will follow with a two-hour recap of the two-day event Tuesday afternoon.
Houston Football fans will have the opportunity to follow the #AmericanKickoff: Media Days via Houston's social media realms, including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat.

Joining Head Coach Tom Herman will be senior quarterback Greg Ward Jr., senior corner back Brandon Wilson, senior tight end Tyler McCloskey and senior defensive end Cameron Malveaux.
All four student-athletes will have the opportunity to speak to national media and the American Athletic Conference over the two-day event.
