2007 Houston Cougars Football Postgame Notes

** The Cougars fell to 0-3 against Oregon... The Cougars dropped to 0-2 against the Ducks in Eugene, Ore.

** The Cougars fell to 30-30-2 (.500) in season openers.

** The Cougars fell to 18-41-3 (.315) in road openers.

** The Cougars fell to 10-21 (.323) against Pac-10 opponents.

** The Cougars fell to 1-4 (.200) when playing on Sept. 1... Ironically, the last time that the Cougars played on Sept. 1 was a 38-24 loss to Oregon at Reliant Stadium in Houston to open the 2005 season.

** The Cougars fell to 76-86-4 (.470) during the month of September.

** With 545 yards of total offense (315 passing, 230 rush), the Cougars recorded at least 400 yards of total offense for the 35th time during head coach Art Briles' tenure... It also marked the 16th time that the Cougars racked up at least 500 yards of total offense since 2003.

** Sophomore Blake Joseph became the first quarterback other than Kevin Kolb to start under center for the Cougars since Nick Eddy on Nov. 30, 2002, at Louisville. That was a span of 1,735 days.

** With 205 rushing yards, senior running back Anthony Alridge recorded the fifth 100-yard rushing game of his career. The Cougars fell to 4-1 (.800) during games in which Alridge reaches triple digits... His total was the second highest of his career, trailing only his 225 rushing yards at C-USA rival SMU on Nov. 11, 2006.

** With 205 rushing yards, senior running back Anthony Alridge recorded the second 200-yard rushing game of his career... He became only the fifth player in school history to record multiple 200-yard rushing games... He joined Paul Gipson (4), Jim Strong (3), Joffrey Reynolds (2) and Chuck Weatherspoon (2).

** With his 86-yard touchdown catch around the 1:50 mark of the third quarter, senior running back Anthony Alridge recorded the seventh-longest reception in UH history and the longest catch of his career... His reception topped his previous long of 62 yards against Oregon on Sept. 1, 2005.

** With a rushing touchdown and a receiving touchdown against Oregon, senior running back Anthony Alridge became the first player since Ryan Gilbert against Tulane on Oct. 8, 2005, to record a receiving and a rushing touchdown in the same game.

** With 51 passing yards, sophomore quarterback Blake Joseph topped his previous single-game best of 29 yards set against Grambling State on Sept. 16, 2006. Joseph also set single-game highs in pass attempts (12), pass completions (8) and longest pass (18 yards).

** With his 1-yard touchdown rush at the 0:10 mark of the first quarter, true freshman Terrance Ganaway scored the first touchdown of his collegiate career.

** Senior fullback Kenneth Atkins recorded the first reception of his career around the 3:30 mark of the second quarter.

** Senior outside linebacker Rocky Schwartz made his first appearance in a Cougar uniform since a season-ending knee injury against Grambling State on Sept. 16, 2006.

** First Starts: Senior cornerback Harry Simon, junior linebacker James Francis, sophomore free safety Brandon Brinkley, sophomore quarterback Blake Joseph, junior left tackle Sebastian Vollmer, sophomore center Carl Barnett and senior wide receiver Jordan Brown each made their first career starts as a Cougar.

** First Games: Redshirt freshman quarterback Case Keenum, sophomore outside linebacker Tim Mercer, sophomore strong safety Broderic Bean, redshirt freshman wide receiver Teric Williams, redshirt freshman tight end Wesley Scourten, true freshman running back Terrance Ganaway, redshirt freshman running back Randall Antoine, true freshman defensive back Loyce Means, sophomore inside linebacker C.J. Cavness, sophomore punter Chase Turner and redshirt freshman wide receiver L.J. Castile each competed in their first games as Cougars.
