2007 Houston Cougars Football Postgame Notes

** With the loss, the Cougars saw their six-game home winning streak come to an end... It was the longest winning streak in the history of John O'Quinn Field at Robertson Stadium... It also was the longest home winning streak since the Cougars set a school record with 15 straight home wins at the Houston Astrodome from Oct. 29, 1988 to Oct. 5, 1991.
** With the loss, the Cougars saw their seven-game winning streak in Conference USA games come to an end... It was the longest winning streak in C-USA games by the Cougars and the longest conference winning streak since the 1989-90 teams won 11 consecutive Southwest Conference games from Nov. 4, 1989 to Nov. 10, 1990.
** East Carolina improved to 5-3 (.625) all-time against Houston.
** The Cougars fell to 28-16-1 (.633) all-time in conference home openers... The Cougars are 7-5 (.583) all-time in Conference USA home openers.
** The Cougars fell to 78-87-4 (.473) all-time during the month of September.
** The Cougars fell to 7-7-1 (.500) all-time against teams from the state of North Carolina.
** The Cougars fell to 82-66-1 (.554) all-time against current teams from Conference USA.
** The Cougars fell to 6-3 (.667) all-time when playing on Sept. 29.
** With 484 yards of total offense (345 pass, 139 rush), the Cougars recorded at least 400 yards of total offense for the 38th time during head coach Art Briles' tenure... It also marked the fifth straight game dating back to the 2006 AutoZone Liberty Bowl that the Cougars reached that total.
** With 350 all-purpose yards (189 receiving, 161 kickoff return), senior wide receiver Donnie Avery posted the second-highest single-game total in UH history... His totals trailed only Chuck Weatherspoon's 372 all-purpose yards (123 rush, 85 receiving, 34 kickoff return, 130 punt return) against Eastern Washington on Nov. 17, 1990.
** ** With 350 all-purpose yards (189 receiving, 161 kickoff return), senior wide receiver Donnie Avery set a C-USA single-game record... His totals topped the 347 all-purpose yards (191 kickoff return, 38 punt return, 4 rush, 114 receiving) by TCU's Cory Rodgers' at Louisville on Nov. 10, 2004.
** With 189 receiving yards, senior wide receiver Donnie Avery recorded his second 100-yard receiving game of the 2007 season and the sixth 100-yard game of his career... The Cougars fell to 1-5 (.167) all-time during games in which Avery reaches triple digits.
** With 189 receiving yards, senior wide receiver Donnie Avery set a single-game high in that category... His total topped his previous high of 113 yards set against Tulsa on Nov. 2, 2006.
** With two receiving touchdowns, senior wide receiver Donnie Avery tied his single-game high... He equaled his best first set at UTEP on Sept. 16, 2005.
** With two receiving touchdowns, senior wide receiver Donnie Avery recorded the 13th and 14th receiving touchdowns of his career and moved into a tie for 10th place in UH history in that category... He joined Carl Hilton (1982-85), James Dixon (1987-88) and Freddie Gilbert (1991-92)... Up next in the UH records book is Ron Peters, who caught 15 touchdown passes from 1991 to 1994.
** Senior wide receiver Donnie Avery's 100-yard kickoff return at the end of the third quarter tied Ronnie Powledge (vs. Detroit, Nov. 2, 1963) and Ricky Wilson (vs. Louisville, Nov. 22, 2003) for the longest kickoff return in school history... It also was the fourth time in C-USA history that a kickoff was returned 100 yards for a touchdown.
** With his 100-yard kickoff return at the end of the third quarter, senior wide receiver Donnie Avery set a single-game best in that category... His return topped his previous long of 49 yards against Miami (Fla.) on Sept. 23, 2004.
** With 161 kickoff return yards, senior wide receiver Donnie Avery set a personal single-game high in that category... His total topped his previous best of 49 yards set against Miami (Fla.) on Sept. 23, 2004.
** Senior running back Anthony Alridge recorded a rushing and a receiving touchdown in a game for the third time during the 2007 season... Earlier this season, he became the first player in UH history to record rushing and receiving touchdowns in one game in consecutive games (at Oregon, Sept. 1 and at Tulane, Sept. 15).
** With two touchdown passes, sophomore quarterback Blake Joseph tied his single-game high... He equaled his mark set against Tulane on Sept. 15, 2007.
** With 250 passing yards, sophomore quarterback Blake Joseph set a single-game high... His total bested his previous high of 113 yards at Conference USA rival Tulane on Sept. 15, 2007.
** Sophomore punter Chase Turner's 55-yard punt around the 6:31 mark of the fourth quarter was the longest kick of his career... It topped his previous long of 54 yards set against Colorado State on Sept. 22, 2007.
** First Starts: Redshirt freshman wide receiver Teric Williams made his first career start.
