    TEAM NOTES

    ** With Saturday's win, the Cougars won their third straight game this season against a team from a BCS conference... The Cougars enjoyed a 45-35 win at No. 5/6 Oklahoma State on Sept. 12 and a 29-28 win against Texas Tech in Houston on Sept. 26.

    ** With Saturday's win, the Cougars earned their first win against a team from the Southeastern Conference since a 28-16 win at Mississippi State on Oct. 22, 2005.

    ** With a 4-1 start through their first five games, the Cougars marked the program's best start since the 2006 team started 4-1... It tied with the 2006 team as the best start since the 1990 team started 8-0.

    ** Saturday's game marked the first time that an opponent scored before the Cougars in any game this season.

    ** With 31 points, the Cougars scored in their 111th consecutive game... The Cougars have not been shut out since a 48-0 loss at Texas on Sept. 23, 2000.

    ** With 553 yards of total offense (434 pass, 119 rush), the Cougars have recorded at least 500 yards of total offense in five consecutive games to open the 2009 season... UH last failed to reach that milestone with 415 yards against Air Force during the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces on Dec. 31, 2008.

It was his fifth straight game this season with at least 300 yards and his 18th 300-yard game in the last 19 contests...     ** Junior quarterback Case Keenum has thrown a touchdown pass in his last 21 consecutive games, extending his school record... The previous record was 18 consecutive games by Andre Ware from 1988 to 1991.

    ** With 131 receiving yards, junior wide receiver James Cleveland recorded the second 100-yard game of his career... The Cougars improved to 1-1 during games in which Cleveland reached triple digits.

    ** With his 36-yard reception around the 3:00 mark of the third quarter, junior wide receiver James Cleveland recorded the longest reception of his UH career... It topped his previous UH long of 19 yards at UTEP on Oct. 3, 2009...His career long of 40 yards came when he competed for Iowa against Northern Illinois on Sept. 1, 2007.

    ** With two interceptions, senior cornerback Brandon Brinkley recorded the first multi-interception game of his career... His total topped his previous best of one, done seven times and most recently against Texas Tech on Sept. 28.

    ** With his interception at the 12:29 mark of the second quarter, senior cornerback Brandon Brinkley recorded his first pickoff of the 2009 season and the eighth of his career.

    ** Senior defensive end Tyrell Graham recorded his first career fumble recovery at the 4:17 mark of the third quarter.

    ** With his 12-yard sack around the 10:00 mark of the fourth quarterback, freshman Ameen Behbahani recorded the first sack of his career.

    ** Freshman defensive end Zeke Riser recorded his team-leading second fumble recovery at the 4:50 mark of the fourth quarter.

    ** With his 23-yard field goal at the 6:39 mark of the third quarter, senior kicker Ben Bell recorded his first field goal and attempt of the 2009 season.


    KEENUM IN THE C-USA RECORDS BOOK
    ** With 434 passing yards, junior quarterback Case Keenum moved into eighth place in Conference USA career history... Keenum now has 9,409 career passing yards... Up next in the UH records book is Rice's Chase Clement, who threw for 9,785 yards from 2005 to 2008.

    ** With four touchdown passes, junior quarterback Case Keenum moved into seventh place in Conference USA career history with 75 career touchdown passes... Up next in the C-USA records book is Cincinnati's Gino Guidugli, who threw for 78 touchdowns from 2001 to 2004.

    ** With 447 yards of total offense (434 pass, 13 rush), junior quarterback Case Keenum moved into eighth place in Conference USA career history... Keenum now has 10,106 yards (9,409 pass, 697 rush) of total offense during his career... Up next in the C-USA records book is East Carolina's David Garrard, who recorded 10,238 yards of total offense from 1998 to 2001.

    ** With four touchdowns responsible for, junior quarterback Case Keenum moved into fourth place in Conference USA career history... Keenum now has 94 touchdowns responsible for during his career... Up next in the C-USA records book is Houston's Kevin Kolb, who was responsible for 106 touchdowns from 2003 to 2006.


    KEENUM IN THE HOUSTON RECORDS BOOK
    ** With eight 400-yard passing games during his career, junior quarterback Case Keenum moved into a tie with David Klingler for first place in that category in school history... Klinger also recorded eight 400-yard passing games from 1988 to 1991.

    ** With 434 passing yards, junior quarterback Case Keenum recorded the 18th 300-yard passing game of his career... Keenum moved out of a tie with Kevin Kolb and set a UH career record in that category... Kolb posted 17 300-yard passing games from 2003 to 2006.


    MISSISSIPPI STATE POSTGAME NOTES

    TEAM
    • Mississippi State captains were Jamar Chaney, Anthony Dixon, Tyson Lee and Marcus Washington
    • Mississippi State won the toss and deferred to the second half.
    • Mississippi State is now 6-9 all time against Houston
    • Mississippi State is 3-5 all time against Houston in Starkville.
    • With Charles Mitchell's 71-yard interception for a touchdown, it marked State's fourth non-offensive touchdown in 2009. Last season, the Bulldogs did not have one.
    • Mississippi State rushed for 330 yards, the most since gaining 340 on the ground against Kentucky in 2004.
    • Mississippi State had 490 total yards which was the most since gaining 501 against Arkansas in 2007.
    • Mississippi State intercepted two passes in a game for the first time since doing so against Vanderbilt last season.

    • Chris White's sack in the fi rst quarter was the first of his career.
    • Charles Mitchell's interception was his second this season and the second of his career.
    • Freshman Johnthan Banks earned his first career start.
    • Brandon Heaven's 14-yard reception in the third quarter was the longest of his career.
    • Jamar Chaney's third-quarter interception was the first of his career.
    • Quarterback Tyson Lee rushed 12 times for 68 yards, a career high.
    • Anthony Dixon rushed for his fifth straight 100+ yard game.


    CAREER UPDATES
    • With 134 rushing yards, Anthony Dixon has 3,064 career rushing yards, just 48 shy of Jerious Norwood's school record 3,212.
    • Anthony Dixon now has 13 100+ yard rushing games which ties him with Jerious Norwood for a school record.
    • Dixon now ranks eighth all time in the SEC in career rushing attempts with 760.
