    2009 Houston Cougars Football Postgame Notes

    TEAM NOTES

    ** With a 5-1 start through their first five games, the Cougars marked the program’s best start since 2003 when Houston also started the season 5-1.

     

    ** With 44 points, the Cougars scored in their 112th consecutive game… The Cougars have not been shut out since a 48-0 loss at Texas on Sept. 23, 2000.

     

    ** With 516 yards of total offense (334 pass, 182 rush), the Cougars have recorded at least 500 yards of total offense in six consecutive games to open the 2009 season… UH last failed to reach that milestone with 415 yards against Air Force during the Bell Helicopter Armed Forces on Dec. 31, 2008.

     

    ** With 516 yards of total offense (334 pass, 182 rush), the Cougars have recorded at least 500 yards of total offense in 15 games during the last two seasons.

     

    ** With 516 yards of total offense (334 pass, 182 rush), the Cougars have recorded at least 400 yards of total offense in 19 consecutive games… UH last failed to reach that milestone with 367 yards against TCU during the Texas Bowl on Dec. 28, 2007.

     

    ** The Cougars are 122-123-6 (.498) all-time when playing in the month of October.

     

    ** Houston had no turnover against Tulane, marking the first time since Dec. 28, 2007, during the Texas Bowl against TCU that the team did not commit a turnover.

     

    TULANE SERIES NOTES

    ** The Cougars are 11-4 (.733) in the all-time series against Tulane.

     

    ** The Cougars have won their last seven games against Tulane.. Houston has not lost to Tulane since a 34-13 decision on Sept. 7, 2002, at Robertson Stadium in Houston.

     

    ** The Cougars have won their last three games against Tulane in New Orleans… Houston has not lost to Tulane in New Orleans since a 41-23 setback on Nov. 4, 2000.

     

    ** The Cougars have won their last four games against Tulane on the road or at a neutral site… The Cougars’ win against the Green Wave in 2005 was played at Cajun Field in Lafayette, La., due to Hurricane Katrina.

    ** Head coach Kevin Sumlin is 2-0 against Tulane during his career.

     

    INDIVIDUAL NOTES

    ** Junior center Jaryd Anderson, sophomore safety Roisean Haynes and freshman defensive tackle Tyrone Campbell all made their first career starts against Tulane.

     

    ** Freshman defensive tackle DeAnthony Sims made his collegiate debut against the Green Wave.

     

    ** A second quarter interception was the second of the season and career of junior defensive back Jamal Robinson.

     

    ** A 3-yard touchdown carry for sophomore running back Justin Johnson was the first career score for the Richardson, Texas, native. It came on the 28th rushing attempt of his career.

     

    ** With a third quarter blocked punt, junior defensive back Jeremy Smith gave the Cougars their first blocked punt since Sept. 20, 2008, when Wesley Scourten accomplish the task against Colorado State.

     

    ** Junior quarterback Case Keenum has thrown a touchdown pass in his last 22 consecutive games, extending his school record… The previous record was 18 consecutive games by Andre Ware from 1988 to 1991.

     

    ** Freshman tight end Tyler Chambers made his first career reception in the third quarter, catching a seven-yard pass from Keenum to set up a Houston touchdown later in the drive.

     

    ** With 334 passing yards, junior quarterback Case Keenum has thrown for at least 300 yards in 19 games during his career… It was his sixth straight game this season with at least 300 yards and his 19th 300-yard game in the last 20 contests… The Cougars are 11-7 (.611) during games in which Keenum throws for at least 300 yards.

     

    ** With two touchdown passes, junior quarterback Case Keenum has thrown for at least one touchdown in 22 consecutive games and 31 of 33 games during his career… Keenum’s last game without a touchdown pass came against Tulsa on Nov. 10, 2007.

     

    ** With 84 receiving yards, senior wide receiver Chaz Rodriguez tied his career high… He also tallied 84 receiving yards against UTEP on Nov. 22, 2008.

     

    ** With two touchdown passes, junior quarterback Case Keenum recorded the 20th multi-touchdown game of his career… It also was the 17th time in the last 19 games that Keenum has thrown for at least two touchdowns.

     

    ** With 11 tackles in his first career start, sophomore defensive back Roisean Haynes set a career high ... His previous best was six tackles on Sept. 5, 2009, against Northwestern State.

     

    ** With two touchdown runs, sophomore running back Bryce Beall recorded the fourth multi-touchdown game of his career.

     

    ** With two touchdown runs, sophomore running back Justin Johnson recorded the first multi-touchdown game of his career.

     
    KEENUM IN THE C-USA RECORDS BOOK

    ** With 334 passing yards, junior quarterback Case Keenum sits in seventh place in Conference USA career history… Keenum now has 9,743 career passing yards… Up next in the UH records book is UAB’s Darrell Hackney, who threw for 9,886 yards from 2002 to 2005.

     

    KEENUM IN THE HOUSTON RECORDS BOOK

    ** With 334 passing yards, junior quarterback Case Keenum recorded the 19th 300-yard passing game of his career… Keenum holds the UH career record in that category, over former Cougar Kevin Kolb, who posted 17 300-yard passing games from 2003 to 2006.

     

    ** With 797 completions during his career, junior quarterback Case Keenum remains in second place in Houston career history with completions… Up next in the UH records books is Kevin Kolb, who set a school record with 964 completions from 2003 to 2006.

     

    ** With 9,743 passing yards during his career, junior quarterback Case Keenum remains in second place in Houston career history… Up next in the Houston records book is Kevin Kolb, who set a school record with 12,964 passing yards from 2003 to 2006.
