Final Stats

HOUSTON (AP) - DeMarco McCleskey's 5-yard touchdown run with 7:59 to play lifted Cincinnati to a 29-28 victory over Houston on Saturday night.

Freshman quarterback Gino Guidugli threw for a career-high 317 yards and a touchdown for Cincinnati (4-2, 4-0 Conference USA).

Guidugli completed 19 of 27 passes as he went over the 300-yard plateau for the third time. McCleskey rushed for 100 yards.

Joffrey Reynolds had his third straight 100-yard game with 116 yards rushing for Houston (0-6, 0-4), which led by as many as 11 twice. Houston suffered its 10th consecutive loss.

Big plays helped Cincinnati take an early 10-0 lead. A 48-yard run by McCleskey and a 23-yard pass from Guidugli to George Murray set up the 22-yard field goal by Jonathan Ruffin with 15 seconds left in the first quarter.

Cincinnati then went on a 12-play, 65-yard drive that was highlighted by Guidugli hitting 3-of-6 passes for 44 of the yards. Ray Jackson plunged 1 yard for the touchdown.

Houston came from behind quickly late in the second quarter. Orlando Iglesias extended his string of games with at least one catch to 38 with a 15-yard touchdown.

Jason Parker then intercepted Guidugli's pass and returned it 35 yards for a touchdown and a 14-10 lead. It was the first time Houston has led at halftime since the Southern Miss game last season, a span of nine games.

The Cougars took the opening drive of the third quarter back 81 yards in 12 plays. Chris Robertson got the final 32 yards on six straight carries, the last a 1-yard leap for the TD and a 21-10 lead.

The Bearcats scored on their next three possessions to take the lead. Guidugli was 3-for-3 for 44 yards in the Bearcats' 75-yard drive to their next touchdown, a 4-yard run by McCleskey.

Guidugli then went 3-for-3 for 57 yards in a 65-yard drive, the last a 22-yard touchdown pass to Tim Walker that made it 28-23 with 11:35 to play in the game.

Guidugli completed a 39-yard pass to start the winning drive. McCleskey carried the final four plays for a total of 27 yards, including the 5-yard run for the go-ahead touchdown.
