    2007 Houston Cougars Football Postgame Notes

    TEAM NOTES
    ** Saturday's 39-point win over UAB was the largest margin of victory for the Cougars under head coach Art Briles... It topped the Cougars' 38-point win (45-7) over C-USA rival Tulane on Sept. 9, 2006...

    ** Saturday's 39-point win over UAB was the largest margin of victory in a road game for the Cougars since a 64-0 win at Rice on Dec. 2, 1989.

    ** The Cougars improved to 2-4 (.333) all-time against UAB.

    ** The Cougars improved to 84-66-1 (.563) all-time against current teams in Conference USA.

    ** The Cougars improved to 6-3 (.667) all-time when playing on Oct. 20.

    ** The Cougars improved to 1-13 (.071) all-time when playing in the state of Alabama. The Cougars are 0-7 at Alabama, 0-3 at Auburn and improved to 1-3 (.250) at UAB.

    ** With 39 points, the Cougars scored in their 87th consecutive game... The Cougars have not been shut out since a 48-0 loss at Texas on Sept. 23, 2000.

    ** With 540 yards of total offense (205 pass, 335 rush), the Cougars recorded at least 400 yards of total offense for the 41st time during head coach Art Briles' tenure... It also marked the eighth straight game that the Cougars reached that total dating back to the 2006 AutoZone Liberty Bowl.... The Cougars improved to 27-14 (.659) since 2003 when recording at least 400 yards of total offense.

    ** With 540 yards of total offense (205 pass, 335 rush), the Cougars recorded at least 500 yards of total offense for the 19th time during head coach Art Briles' tenure... The Cougars improved to 12-7 (.632) since 2003 when recording at least 500 yards of total offense.

    ** The Cougars recorded four interceptions in a game for the first time since picking off four passes against Conference USA rival East Carolina on Nov. 6, 2004.

     

     

    INDIVIDUAL NOTES
    ** Redshirt freshman quarterback Case Keenum's 22-yard rush around the 5:16 mark of the first quarter was a career long... It topped his previous best of 20 yards against Conference USA rival Rice on Oct. 13, 2007.

    ** Sophomore quarterback Blake Joseph's 36-yard rush around the 5:30 mark of the second quarter was a career long... It topped his previous best of 20 yards at Oregon in the season opener on Sept. 1, 2007.

    ** Redshirt freshman running back Andre Kohn's touchdown at the 13:14 mark of the fourth quarter was the first of his collegiate career.

    ** With five receptions, senior wide receiver Donnie Avery extended his streak of games with at least one reception to 28 consecutive games, the 11th-longest streak among active players... Avery has not played a game without recording at least once reception since facing Tulane on Oct. 8, 2005.

    ** With 111 rushing yards, senior running back Anthony Alridge recorded his fourth 100-yard rushing game of 2007 and the eighth of his career... The Cougars improved to 6-2 (.750) during games in which Alridge reaches triple digits in rushing yards.

    ** With eight 100-yard rushing yard games during his career, senior running back Anthony Alridge into a tie for ninth place with Anthony Evans (2002-05) in UH career history... Up next in the UH records book is Antowain Smith (1995-96) and Jim Strong (1968-69), who each posted nine 100-yard rushing games during their respective careers.

    ** Junior defensive end Phillip Hunt recorded his first career interception around the 8:45 mark of the second quarter.

    ** With two interceptions, senior safety Rocky Schwartz recorded the first multi-interception game of his career.

    ** Senior safety Rocky Schwartz' interception around the 8:05 mark of the first quarter was his first pickoff of the 2007 season and the fifth of his career... His 34-yard interception return was a career long, topping his previous long of four yards at Conference USA rival UTEP on Sept. 16, 2005.

    ** Junior cornerback Kenneth Fontenette's interception around the 1-minute mark of the first quarter was his team-leading second pickoff of the 2007 season and the sixth of his career.

    ** Sophomore punter Chase Turner's 59-yard punt around the 2:02 mark of the first quarter was a career long... It topped his previous long of 55 yards set against Conference USA rival East Carolina on Sept. 29, 2007.

    ** Redshirt freshman punter punter Tommy Skinner's 47-yard punt around the 1:15 mark of the fourth quarter was a career long... It topped his previous long of 35 yards set against Conference USA rival East Carolina on Sept. 29, 2007.

    ** Senior wide receiver Perry McDaniel's 36-yard punt return around the 1:55 mark of the third quarter was a career best... It topped his previous best of 12 yards set against Conference USA rival Tulane on Sept. 9, 2006.

    ** First Starts: Sophomore linebacker Shomari Williams made his first career start.

    ** First Games: Redshirt freshman fullback Brandon Richard, redshirt offensive lineman Jaryd Anderson and junior cornerback Dazmond Payne - both walk-ons - competed in their first collegiate games.
