Nov. 1, 2014

Final Stats |  Notes

TAMPA, Fla. - Houston Football held USF to its lowest scoring output of the season en route to an impressive 27-3 road win, its third straight win, Saturday afternoon at Raymond James Stadium.

The Cougars improved to 5-3 and 3-1 in American Athletic Conference play with the win, while USF fell to 3-6 and 2-3 in league action.

The 3-1 record places Houston in a five-way tie atop The American stands halfway through league play.

Houston used a 112-yard rushing day from junior running back Kenneth Farrow on a career-high 22 carries including a one-yard touchdown. The game marked the third 100-yard rushing game of the season for Farrow, who also notched an eight-yard receiving touchdown.

Fellow junior running back Ryan Jackson rushed for two scores and 73 yards on 14 carries.

Sophomore quarterback Greg Ward Jr. finished the afternoon 15-of-19 for 89 passing yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, Houston was led by senior linebacker Efrem Oliphant's nine tackles. The Cougars managed to force a late-game turnover on an interception from junior safety Adrian McDonald.

McDonald's interception kept Houston's turnover streak alive as it improved to a nation's best 31 straight games forcing a turnover.

Houston held USF scoreless in the first half, marking a second first half shutout this season, the first vs. Grambling back on Sept. 6.

The Cougars jumped on board early with a 1-yard touchdown run by Farrow with 2:54 left in the first quarter. They then added another score with 7:38 left in the third when Jackson ran in for a 1-yard rush.

Down 14-0, USF kicker Marvin Kloss was able to put the Bulls on the board with a 33-yard field goal with 1:52 left in the third.

Houston used an 8-yard pass from Ward to Farrow with 9:34 remaining to go ahead 20-3 and then added a 24-yard run by Jackson with 5:27 left to put the game out of reach at 27-3.
